In the end, it's the same thing... It's saying you don't want to be on team. He in essence asked for a trade by saying he wasn't going to sign knowing the flames would trade him than lose him for nothing and getting out a year earlier

He also spoke with teams during the rfa period and submitted a list of teams he would sign with.

He couldn't have made it more clear he wanted out.

It might be maturity but he it honestly feels like he gave us half the heart and effort he is showing right now.

I'm looking forward to the reactions from Oiler fans, their media, and the SN panel when Chucky lifts the Cup. It would be some pretty sweet revenge for the way he was treated by the hockey media during the "keeper of the code" fiasco. Even Doughty is probably thinking "oh god, please not him."

The way they all got sucked in by that bulls*** Oilers narrative during that whole thing was beyond embarrassing.

100% this. We only move on from players when we can't make a decision on them and instead say we'll make a decision near the trade deadline, then we say we "can't justify weakening the roster with a playoff spot in sight" and then lose them nothing.

That's not how it will go. Oilers fans along with any other rivals will be "lol Calgary" if Tkachuck lifts the Cup this year, they won't worry about how much they hated him when he was on the Flames.

Like it or not, Tkachuck's elevation to league wide superstar that's now leading a team right through the east and possibly further is one of if not the biggest stories of the year.

I tend to think that if Florida had this type of goaltending for even half the season they would not have been an 8th place team but more like the 120 point team they were last season. They're dead in round one if not from Bobrovski, now it's hard to to see them as the first team in the cup finals. One guy goes on a prolonged heater and their other top guys play to their capabilities and now they're on a run.

The one thing that Carolina is susceptible to is that they don't have some of the high end talent other teams do, especially without Svechnikov. So a hot goalie and opponents who do are the type of team that can take them out. To me they are a lot like the Tampa Bay Devil Ray's where they play a style and system that over a long time will be successful for number of wins. But in a 7 game series that one statistical Anamoly or elite level talent can be enough to get the other team that extra win despite all analytics and indicators stating that they could have won the series had everything gone as predicted.

You could easily be describing the Flames instead of Florida, assuming Huberdeau isn't broken and we get goaltending this team could make noise too. The league is so close nowadays.

I didn't even see this at first, but now it's my favourite part of the goal

No question Tkachuk processes the game at an elite level. I think back to the play with the Flames when he, from the bench, knocked a puck down to try and prevent a delay of game penalty. Of course they gave him a penalty but sim even thinks, in the moment, to even try that?

Yeah people seeing this as a Cinderella team are forgetting the year before. It’s almost more like TB the year before they won the cup (after blowing the league away but then falling in the POs to Columbus) and then the following year when they took it easy regular season and cruised to the cup.

Heat took a 3-0 series lead... so a Panthers 3-0 lead is inevitable?

They lost Hamilton for nothing.

Vegas might be more like the Flames where they make a big deal albeit in season for Eichel and just miss the playoffs. They changed coaches but didnt change much else on the team and bounced back big time. Hopefully players comeback hungry next year and the Flames are where Florida and Vegas are now.

Maybe he would have if Markstrom didn’t fold

It’s easier to be a playoff hero when your goalie keep you in the games

Chucky also had a broken bone in his hand, dumb move by him to get it no doubt but like most life lessons he learned and now he's a playoff beast.

I'm surprised that so many people are surprised that a 25 year old hockey player is better than the 24 year old version of himself.

TBF he looked hurt and terrible in game 1 of this series, right up until the 4th OT. If someone had scored in any of the 3 previous OT periods we’d have been talking about whether he could continue to play or needed a game off.

He did look much better in game 2 though.

THIS is how you play hockey in the playoffs:
