- flames are one of the worst managed teams
- one of the worst owners
- I like Calgary but it would not even be league average desirability in terms of cities
- team resides in Canada with taxation and politics issues.
The flames are at a massive disadvantage when it comes to a retooling strategy.

Tkachuk just opening the gate and leaving is f***ing hilarious.

It's just a game & our organization is stupid so they can have my bitterness instead.

Same here.
The more the light shines on what happened, the worse our organisation looks.
We need the complete reset that is coming our way. Badly.

I am actually cheering for both Tkachuk and Bennett to win. Would be better to see one as MVP too. That would make Flames management look so bad, almost bud light bad and force some major changes hopefully.
People say Tkachuk forced his way off but the mistake was the bridge deal. Everyone knows you want to play on the same team as a pest that can score rather than against. Bet loiler and kings player love they don't have to deal with him anymore. Another fail with Bennett who you could see would be a playoff performer, never given a chance at a top 2 line role for any decent amount of time.
Hope Tre does get hired by Leafs so he can run them to the ground and stuck with long term contracts for players over their primes. We would have been way better off selling Tkachuk for young players and picks and tank for Bedard which was another huge fail, now we done with another decade of 19 place finishes.

I look forward to debating the whole idea of “just get in” after the Panthers win the Stanley Cup.
The Panthers have:
1st Overall: Aaron Ekblad
(Ancient) 2nd Overall: Eric Staal
2nd Overall: Aleksander Barkov
2nd Overall: Sam Reinhart
4th Overall: Sam Bennett
12th Overall: Anton Lundell
(Ancient) 12th Overall: Marc Staal
2x Vezina Trophy Goalie: Sergei Bobrovsky
Even if you squint really hard, the Flames roster is nowhere near this good at the top end.
The unique part of Florida is that they’ve leveraged their desirable market + the incompetence of other organizations very well…but even then, the backbone of their organization is a 1st and 2nd Overall pick (and an acquired 6th overall pick). Flames just don’t have a Barkov, Ekblad, or Tkachuk.
So yeah, just get in…but also make sure you have elite talent drafted 1st and 2nd overall.

Absolutely agreed - and it wasn't meant to be directed at you, more that there will be debates around the idea. Similar to how there was with the LAK 1st Cup this season.
All 8th place teams just aren't made the same.
Looking at the remaining 4 teams, the Flames "best case scenario" looks to be Carolina. I think that's what the vision for the Flames is.

It’s a pretty non-traditional celebration, and one that I think is very “look at me”. I mean we’re all talking about it. To do it once, great, but twice? You don’t think that might rub the other team the wrong way?
We all saw the Rittich stick flip results. I’d certainly be a bit fired up if I was a Canes player right now.

Being fired up because a player didn’t want to celebrate and wanted to leave the ice ASAP is absurd.

Of course it does. That's the point. Dude is and always will be a sh** disturber. It's part of his game. It's why he's effective. People wondering why he didn't have it more dialled in with us, acting like they were complete people at 24 or something. People grow, change, become better, smarter. Really wish he wanted to stay here at the end of the day. I do think that the covid isolation from American families took a toll for both him and Johnny.

And they turned 3rd overall Huberdeau to 6th overall Tkachuk which is looking like an absolute genius move. One guy is just coming into his own and the other guy is likely to decline.

Carolina is extremely smart with their cap. They cut players loose all the time instead of giving them horrible contracts. They don't go blow their cap on UFAs. They stock pile picks. They look for value trades and contracts. The Flames are pretty much the exact. opposite.

This is what I hope for the future. Boston is also a team that isn’t afraid to make a bold trade or move to cut guys loose.

Speaking of forced.
The Oilers and Kings had their way with Tkachuk at the end of the day, BTW.

I will just volunteer that I view the whole idea of looking down one’s nose at ‘just get in and anything can happen’ as being a bit silly IMO.
In a 32 team league, half the teams get in. All of those teams scored more than they allowed all year, by double digits. (The Flames were the only other team that had a positive goal differential, albeit just +8. Every other team that missed had negative goal differential). Obviously not every team in the playoffs can sustain a positive goal differential. That would be impossible
All of those teams that get in have points percentage .562 and higher
They also eliminate the lower half of the teams, including the lowly ones where some of top seeded playoff teams pile up their easy wins.
There are no easy outs. Except for Boston, all of the teams that got in had in the range of 42-52 wins, and a bunch of OTLs (which are settled in a way entirely irrelevant to how close games are settled in the playoffs)
Damn right anything can happen, and there is nothing wrong with that. Seems you actually have to be pretty good to ‘just get in’

That is one way to view it.
I was thinking since all four of these teams are relocations or expansions, we need to let this current version of the Flames that's messed up and without a proper arena leave town entirely.
Then we can get a brand new team in a few years and reach the semi's in a couple after that.
