Brutal, our whole left side is gutted.
Cantave was the one I was referring to last night. Didn't realize it was intraleague, wonder if Cavalry is getting a transfer fee for him.

Ntignee has looked good on the left all year and Smith-Doyle was decent on the right today. Would rather see some reinforcements signed, especially if Alarcon is hurt long term as I don't think Aird has the legs to bomb up and down the pitch any more.

Why in the blue hell would we be sending Cantave to VFC in the middle of the season? What kind of dumb #### is this?

Especially with Escalante leaving as well. That leaves is pretty light on the wings. Looks like we’ll be seeing Fisk back in for plenty of minutes in the second half of the season..

Hopefully I'm wrong on the VFC part. This was a pretty Orange Juliusy experience.

However, while post-game comments from the club seem to convey something is afoot with Escalante, recent reports of his pending move to F.C. Motagua — a top-tier team in his native country of Honduras — during the upcoming transfer window are inaccurate.

That’s because Cavalry owns the 28-year-old Honduran’s playing rights this Canadian Premier League season and has the option to pick up his contract next year and has no movement of him in mind at this time.

“What I do know is Jose has been terrific for us for 100 games,” said Cavalry gaffer Tommy Wheeldon Jr. “What I do know is is his family is not with him here, and he’s endured this (year) without them. Whatever happens next will be public when we need to make that announcement.

Jose has told multiple people in our group that yesterday was his last game. He wasn't "injured" either. I don't know why the club insists on lying to us.

While he was signing autographs for the kids his teammates were all going up to him and thanking him and saying they’ll stay in touch and wishing him the best. Unfortunately he’s gone

He did have a pretty big strap around his right hamstring so that part of the article isn’t exactly inaccurate. He told us that’s why he didn’t want to jump up into the flower beds to thank the fans

Cantave being sold to Vancouver FC is accurate. Hope there are some quality reinforcements coming in.

There are photos of him signing his new contract. What's with the lack of transparency from Cavalry? Just announce it and be done with it.

I can't see a reason for Cavalry and the CPL to be silent on this either. It is the worst kept "secret" in the league. Just say it. It sucks to see him go, but it is actually a positive thing for the club/league when players get picked up by other leagues.

Even that Sun article posted a few days ago tried to hard to spin it as "yay, 100th match, nothing to see here" was pretty lame when everyone already knew he was leaving. That's a whole lot of tears and hugs for a 100th match.

Most fans aren't stupid, and thankfully gave him the sendoff he deserved. But why hide this? The social media folks should be pumping this as hard as they can to show that the league has players that other leagues want.

Spin it as a "celebration" all you want, but that was 100% a farewell. The players knew it, Tommy knew it, the fans knew it. Someone is telling fibs.

I can imagine that negotiating a deal with a Honduran club might some with its own... challenges. But this is looking pretty bush league all around, including from Cavalry.

This piece makes it sound like he signed that contract in violation of his contract with Cavalry: https://calgarysun.com/sports/belove...rom-cavalry-fc

Maybe the issue was exactly that. He wanted a leave so that he could go deal with the personal situation in Honduras, and Cavs were going to give that to him. But they weren't super thrilled about him going to play for this other club in the meantime. Maybe they were reluctant to say publicly that he was leaving as they were trying to get a loan fee?

I'm purely guessing here. I just think there was probably a reason why they weren't entirely forthcoming here, and it wasn't just to be difficult.

Would rather have the club be up front about this instead of seeing photos of Escalante signing a contract in Honduras and Cavalry denying it.

Jose told us over the weekend that he wants to post an update about the situation but he's waiting on club and league approval and it's not coming...

Possibly. I am guessing that there is/was a permanent sale lined up, and now something has happened behind the scenes and the club/league are scrambling to sort it out.

I think that any talk of a leave of absence, loan, temporary, etc. are just red herrings and/or buying time.

Also just guessing, with no source other than my own gut.

A real ugly, messy transfer saga?

We’re a real football league now folks! Five years and we’ve made it!
