That is quite the bombshell. I remember sitting at the inaugural match without knowing much about any of these players. After the traffic delays, snow coming down, no roof on the stands. And Escalante was already making life difficult for the York9 defenders. I thought to myself how much of a handful he would be and how much he would frustrate opponents. Only later did we see how much he actually would, and how unapologetic he would be about it.
I always liked seeing his family in the stands as well. But I totally understand it. If you're from Honduras, Calgary must feel like a completely foreign land. Of course he has his immediate family here, but I can see why someone would want to get back to the motherland, the rest of his family, a familiar culture, etc.
And I can't even go to the game tomorrow to help give him a send off.
There has to be more to this story. His family spent the last two winters here and loved it. He's been involved in coaching with SW United since he's been here. I think he was on his way to getting his PR as well.
I know there's that U-23 international rule, is this a result of that rule? If so, why would you get rid of Jose and keep Joe Mason who doesn't want to be here? Is it because Cavalry need U-21 minutes desperately and have no roster space so you transfer one of the few players with value?
Kind of rich for Tommy to talk about how he wanted to be a little more selective with his midseason transfers after the results once we sold Pepple and Loturi last year, but it seems like he's doing the same thing again.
I would hope that the reason is a nice transfer payment, but he's only contracted until the end of this season. I'm not sure how much of a payment that will command.
Maybe it is a case of him saying with certainty "when my contact is up, I'm going home" and then Tommy figures get something now, or let him go for nothing later.

The club has the option to extend him another year

I find with football transfer speculation that people sometimes forget the human aspect of decisions made. It may not be a footballing reason at all and something as simple as one of his/wife's parents is very sick all of a sudden and he wants to go back home right away, or something of that nature.

^ That’s the first place I went to as well. Choosing to move back to Honduras is most likely family driven. Hopefully his family isn’t facing hardship.

I've heard that's not the only departure coming. Nothing to back that up other than people who are close to the players talking but I guess we'll see next week...
Another beauty day for a game. On route right now with my smoker. We've been the group who's been parking in the officer's clubs parking lot and tailgating there. Today is the day we step it up, we will be smoking some pizzas and wings pregame!

First game of the year for me. Me + my two youngest boys + their two buddies. Wish me luck. Sitting in the OC for the first time. Don’t even know where that is.
Beautiful weather and a great result. Ntignee is a quality player, love the way he takes on players. The ref seemed to be having a bit of a meltdown. Yellow cards were flying out all over the place.

Thank you Jose, glad we could send you off properly
Daley was incredible out there. Think he got fouled 7 or 8 times in the first half alone. Kobza had a tough first 3 minutes and then settled in to have a nice game
Crowd was great, 108/109 in particular was LOUD

Man, looks like Escalante had a tough decision to make, poor guy was a mess after. Talked to someone that knows him, said it was an offer he couldn’t refuse. Apparently Cantave is off to VFC.
Brutal, our whole left side is gutted.

Man what an emotional roller coaster. Yelling at Babouli on corner kicks asking why he hates gay people, the Ntignee beauty, Babouli drawing it level, the Musse winner, yelling at Wright when he left the pitch asking why he hates gay people, then the Escalante send off. I'm spent.
Happened to be by the corner flag when the free kick was awarded and stayed to capture this beauty.
Watching Jose in the absolute state he was in on the way out and I'm gutted for him. You know he wants to be here and something else forced his hand.
Also that pregame tailgate smelled damn good, flueryisgod.

I heard the same thing. Just way too much money that club and player couldn’t turn it down. Good for him, hope he comes back one day, either as a vet for one last go at it or in retirement
