I don't see the outcry that this won't ramp up to 100 immediately. Its been illegal for 100 years. An evaluation after 1 year should be done before complaining. These things take time.
Medicine Hat a town of 60,000 has 3 dispensaries. There is no reason CALGARY couldn’t of had a dozen open today.

the reason is the way city of calgary did the permit process.
calgary made it a 'discretionary' permit which allows for appeals, and really bogs it down with red tape. got denied your application, appeal. got your application approved, somebody else appeals it...etc...
edmonton made it a 'permitted use' permit. meet the requirements, get a permit. no appeals allowed.
CBC interviewed a dude from the City’ today, one of the questions was regarding the number of stores. IIRC he said there were nine more approved by the City and just waiting on AGLC approval. And over 100 that were approved but had been appealed and are hung up in that process
Think of the sort of demographic that is going to answer such a poll. If I'm getting baked, I'm not watching CTV News or going on their website to respond to a poll. I'm probably watching funny animal videos on YouTube and eating peanut M&Ms from the bag.

Big reason there aren't more stores, the Helen Lovejoys of the world are appealing a huge number of the city approvals.
Should have heard some of the Helen Lovejoys on QR today. Literally worrying that some ne'erdowell will boot for teenagers. I got news for you, lady. When I was 16, it was way harder to get someone to boot for a 40 of beer, than it was to go to Ken's apartment (err, Terry) and buy a gram for $15, two for $25, or an eighth for $40. We all had to pitch~$5-10, and had to make the phone call from a phone booth, because this was the 90s, and teens didn't have cell phones yet. It wasn't exactly a complicated procedure.
Today has likely started the eventuality of it becoming much harder for underage people to get weed (unless they steal it from their parents' weed cabinet).
One woman was fretting over whether women will start "using" during pregnancy. As though suddenly women will think that now that weed is legal, it must be safe to consume during pregnancy, when it's usual comparables are cigarettes and alcohol.
Come on, people.

I'm sure I saw one somewhere and a web search came up blank, so I'll ask: is there any way to see where the permits have been applied for in the city, approved, appealed, etc.?
