Sometimes the rumors that come out make me question our leadership still. All the Simmonds and kunitz talk... ick. Dont fall into those old habits flames management!! Those sound like king influenced moves to me. This team has no room for slower aging role players. Neal is filling that space right now.
Which means the flames should be targeting someone to fill the role neal was originally brought in for, heavy playing sniper.
I also agree that depth rd should be looked at if stone isnt going to come back in the near future- hamonic has an unfriendly injury history and prout on the bottom pairing will harm us come playoffs.

Kunitz has been beyond awful this season. In what world does he makes sense as an addition? There are several players in Stockton that would outperform him.

role as in cup winning playoff veteran?

Because I think Treliving's intended role for Sharp was meant to be what Lindholm has become - a top 6 RW that can take faceoffs.

Kunitz would be a 4th line addition.

Veteran mentorship with playoff experience I thought was Sharp's intended role at the time.

That went to Jagr ultimately.

So yeah 3L/4L but you're right Kunitz would take the spot of a kid like Mangiapane or Dube

And just to be clear, I'm not for this or advocating Treliving do this. Just saying that it shouldn't be brushed off too quickly.

Would rather give up a 3rd and a prospect for Dzingel then a 7th for Kunitz

That was me. I deserved it. I haven't watched him play. I just looked at the numbers and thought "well, maybe there is something there?"

Don't apologize. Clearly others thought the same thing as you.

I feel like Dzingel gets way more than that.

Dorion got Treliving to give a 2nd for zero offense Lazar. Dzingel is a top 6 forward

Big fat no to Kunitz. That would be Freddy Modin all over again.

Most “rumours” are these tv heads throwing ideas around based on their knowledge of the wants and needs of teams in the league. “I see Kunitz as a fit” is Friedman tossing an idea out there, like he does. It doesn’t mean the Flames have said a word about him.

Read the language. Dreger the other day said “I would think Calgary is on that list” is him saying he PERSONALLY sees a fit. No one in Calgary told him they were doing anything.

This is why it’s so annoying when people complain about CP posters making too many rumours that aren’t “legitimate”, like the people on TV have “legitimate” rumours.

I have heard Treliving say more than once that winning in the playoffs takes something different than winning in the regular season. Assuming it's not lip service, I would expect any deadline acquisitions to be for players with a physical side to their game.

I wonder if the Avs continue to free fall, the Flames would look at Patrik Nemeth.

Would fit their criteria for the rumored 3rd pairing left side d-man rental.

Has some physicality, has size, and would be very cheap compared to the other available rentals.

edit:
Also wouldn't be too difficult to sit him in favor of Kylington or Valimaki should the need arise

However, if you are looking for NHL experience in the playoffs, he wouldn't have that.

Not just physicality to lay the body, but discipline and character to fight through the checking as well.

Guys like kunitz, Roberts, Morrow etc are unique around the league.

I think this is excellent speculation.

I would rather trade for Zadorov. He plays a tough game and hits hard. They say he is being shopped.

This team needs toughness for the playoffs. Zadorov is not that bad. He is a fan favorite in Colorodo. Plus 11 on the season on a bad team. He hits hard and will fight anyone.

No he's not. Hits hards, has a cannon of a shot and not afraid to stand up for himself or a team mate. He would make a great addition imo.

Because I am interested in Burakovsky, I thought I'd include this bit from Friedman's 31 Thoughts:

On Burakovsky: The Capitals have asked for a couple of mid-to-high round draft picks in exchange (seconds and thirds would be a good get) for him. That would give them more flexibility and assets to chase what they need. Even with a seven-game losing streak, absolutely no one is writing them off.

Also, there's this:

I think a few contenders (Calgary makes a lot of sense) are considering Chicago’s Chris Kunitz. It makes a lot of sense.

And this:

Koskinen’s extension will have an effect down the highway in Calgary. Because that’s a contract for a pending unrestricted free agent, it cannot be used as an arbitration comparable for David Rittich. The Flames’ rapidly improving goalie is a year from UFA status, but if he keeps trending in this direction, they’re going to be happy to take care of him.

I don't hate the idea of Kunitz. Feels like Ryan-Hathaway is 2/3 of an effective energy 4th line, but that's not a great fit for Mangiapane/Czarnik/Dube. Our top-9 is pretty well set, so adding a grinder that can complete an energy line would be a good move IMO. Maybe Kunitz isn't that guy, but I like the idea behind it. Decent possession numbers on a pretty bad Chicago team.
