I actually have no problem with Ukrainian, or anyone for that matter, wanting to break away from Russia. I myself try to do the very same.

I think if the Kremlin called and asked you to accept a "sign of unbreakable friendship , brotherhood and trust between Russian and Ukrainian peoples" in any point from 1922 to 1982 you damn well accepted it no matter what your personal feelings were unless you wanted an up close and personal tour of some camp east of the Urals

This is correct. Yet in 2000s Ukrainians showed no desire to give it back either. Again, I'm not saying they had to. Legally, they didn't really have to. But I can't quite support going into a bloody battle for the name of bringing Crimea back into Ukraine.

Putin also threated to go nuclear if western countries interfere with invasion. He had his bluff called. This time I hope it's a bluff again.

I will say that I care and that I hope you and your family are ok. Not everybody agrees with everybody all the time when it comes to these things. When it comes to the human element, we sometimes forget that a small group of mostly men are the ones who make the decisions that shape our lives one way or another.

A lot of us just get lost in the shuffle with some things.

I care too and would hate to see you or your family get hurt in this mess caused by one and only one selfish individual

Among the waves and waves of news that I've read on the internet, they've always been from Ukrainian/Western news sources. It's always refreshing to hear your perspective (whether we agree with it or not) and your updates from within Russia and your neighbours.

Thank you for posting them here and I'll keep praying for your family's safety

Feels weird to "thank" this. But I hope you and yours can be safe.

There is no way the civilized world can just back down on this, the West needs to increase aid to Ukraine and defend every inch of NATO territory. If the world backs down from the threats of a narcissist it will only get worse.

Hope you get out of this okay Pointman.

Putin claims that the West is trying to "blackmail" Russia with nuclear weapons. F off with the gaslighting doublespeak. The west aren't the ones implicitly and explicitly threatening their use constantly over the past half year.

There's panic at my work. Everyone is trying to figure out the odds of them being conscripted. Also everyone is wondering whether it's possible to escape Russia now. Those who are outside of the scope of the first wave, such as 35+ years old, are wondering if they will be conscripted at later point and when that point materializes. While people do curse government and all, I hear no tangible signs of riot yet.

Frankly he said it to improve conscription numbers. He's like "The west is blackmailing us with nukes, we absolutely need to defend ourselves, go enlist into army".

Any estimates on the number of people this wave of conscription will bring in?

Russians are just incredible in their lack of pushback to Putin. Slowly boiled alive, and nothing that's notable.

Millions of people fleeing the country, yet protests were only in the tens of thousands.

It's effing pathetic.

300,000 reservists and those with military combat experience is what I have read.
