So what does full mobilization even mean for Russia? They can conscript whoever they want, but they have no equipment to give them and much of their veteran military leadership is dead so the training these raw recruits will get will be suspect at best. Hopefully this is the motivation regular Russians need to actually do something to finally topple Putin

We should play a little '3 Card Monty' with Russia.
1. Ukraine surrenders.
2. Russia absorbs it.
3. The Coalition of Alberta/Sask/Manitoba/Ukraine invades and conquers Russia. (They'd never see it coming)
4. Ukrainians Rule Russia.
5. Profit.
Canada would span across 3/4s of the top of the World!

For those who may recall, she tried to resign at the start of the war but Putin told her no. She stayed on the condition that Russia would not call for a full mobilization.
Now that this is happening, her condition to stay is no longer met and she has allegedly provided her resignation.
She is the glue that held Russia's economy together and why Russia didn't suddenly collapse like a house of cards when sanctions were done early on.
|
Total speculation on my part but I wonder if this is what caused the speech to be delayed? Them trying to deal with the fallout and convince her to stay?
Wouldn't be surprised if she commits suicide now or falls out of a window.

Explain again how Russia didn't push Ukraine away and didn't react as poorly as an abusive bully could have?

They first wanted to leave and then got abused, as a retaliation of wanting to leave. They wanted to leave because they thought EU would give them a better life, not because Russia was particularly abusive to begin with.

The fact that Putin actually wants to go all in on Ukraine and going for broke is a disastrous sign. He is basically losing everything he has, and has surely secured his personal demise now.
|
Not sure on #1. It was tweeted in the middle of the night. Not many conscripts in public places in Moscow at this time of the day. On #2 Nabiulina did try to resign in February, but there were no reports on any conditions. I doubt she resigned in the middle of the night rather than sleep on this important decision either.

How I wish this were true. My daughter just turned three and we had a birthday party with four Russian families, all of whom have enjoyed life in Canada for many years.
I don’t speak Russian but learned from my wife after the fact that they were all pro-Putin and blame the West (i.e., the US) for everything. It’s all been orchestrated to cause the collapse of Russia and is a direct threat to its sovereignty. One delusional woman actually believes that the news coverage about Ukraine is fake news, that there is no war.
On the outside, these are educated people - accountant, engineer, programmer, financial analyst, legal assistant, etc. But after this encounter, I’d like to drop them in the middle of Izium and have them exhume bodies.

You are supposed to lose your most elite special forces and military equipment before declaring war! Obviously Putin is a grandmaster of planning and strategy!
Full mobilization at this point will be completely useless for Russia (if anything it'll just destabilize the country even more). The training infrastructure, standby equipment, logistics, and officer corps to handle a huge influx of conscripts from the Soviet era doesn't exist anymore and can't be rebuilt in half a year. Conscripts would also take half a year to train up to be combat effective.
Meanwhile Ukraine has another 250K troops already in training across multiple countries and equipped in the next 3-4 months and we've seen the quality of NATO training, tactics, and equipment, even if most is decades old. Its too late for Putin to turn this around in Ukraine. Just a matter of how deep a grave he wants to dig for himself now.

Probably they don't want to bad mouth their homeland that they left. Make them feel bad about themselves to condemn Russia from the comfort of Canada. Feel like they need to defend it instead.

One theory is that the point of declaring a war is for Putin to give himself more dictatorship power. Because it's officially a war times and martial law, he wouldn't need elections to stay in power and generally will get more means to deal with possible unrests and coups. Most likely Russia will be in martial law for the remainder of his reign, however short it hopefully will be.

The very fact that they had left Russia for Canada tells you everything you need to know about what they really think.

I think Ukrainian's experience under Stalin belies that, you cannot ignore the long shadow of the Holodomor, neither should any slavic nation ever trust Russia as it seems drawn to back to brutal nationalistic empire building dictatorships
