I'm lukewarm on Montgomery at times but he was tremendous today. Was great to see Kobza back and he looked decent. Piepgrass feels similar to Loturi a few years ago; got his chance and is playing his way into the starting lineup. York were keen to hack Cavalry down with rough tackles at every opportunity. Thought Musse started strong but had a poor game in the end.

Record crowd for a CPL regular season game at 5114. Was pretty cool seeing all the extra food trucks there. Got a smash burger that was far superior to anything I would have got regularly and it was cheaper. Not bad. Parking was surprisingly easy to get out of.

It was hot as hell out there though. Gonna take some time to get used to that.
I was approaching the turnoff from the south at 3:45 and it looked traffic was backed up heading in so I decided to park on James McKevitt and walk the 20 minutes.

I guess there was some mega church event that brought in 5 different churches.

They announced 5100 or something. A regular season record they said.

Great crowd out there today. The first few rows of the main stand get brutal directly in the sun though. Lots of people leaving through the game due to how hot it gets.

Many of them first timers too. Not sure how and if that situation can be mitigated.

Some post-match thoughts

https://open.substack.com/pub/canadi...eOnShare=false

Shifting to the back 3/5 after the second half water break was a great decision from Tommy, York really had nothing after that.

Shoutout to the Spruce Meadows/Cavalry team. They had three large events there on Sunday and it was all done so smoothly.

And I didn't mention this in my writeup but man some of those York tackles were pretty bad. Warschewski took one in the mid-second half that was a potential ankle breaker and the defender didn't even get a card.

Were people actually leaving the game or just moving to the shaded back rows? I noticed more of the latter where I was sitting.

Lots of people left after the drinks break in the second half.

It's June in Alberta. If you're not going to outdoor events with sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen on, you're the problem.

in April, May, September and October the full sun is nice.

I wonder if the Solution is making all those peak summer games into evening games. 7pm starts and such.

For the main stand, 7pm this time of year would actually be brutal. Everyone would be staring at the sun. Earlier afternoon this time of year just leaves the ends to get fried.

Sure, agreed on that front. Did see lots of them not having hats or glasses, but still. In order to grow the sport, need to figure something out. It’s the story every game, but was even more the case yesterday due to the stands being filled and probably not many seats being available further back.

Evening games might help mitigate that.

I'm used to getting cooked in the front row of the supporters end but even with a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen it was pretty stiffling. Spent the second half in the back row and it was much better.

They shifted the 21st game to earlier in the day.
Maybe that will help?

It's hard to imagine an infrastructure change that could help.

Any way to buy tickets other than Ticketmaster for the game in Halifax?

Hopefully fansfirst adds CPL soon. I did chat with them and it appears to be in the cards

Absolutely. Playing under the lights always feels more special.

If your plan was to help people with sun issues you'd actually want to move the games back to 11am or so when the sun hasn't moved over the grandstand yet.

What's the issue with buying on Ticketmaster?

We're getting to peak summer light. Even a 7pm start would be directly into the sunlight for more than half the game, if not most of it. If it was me I'd go 11am or noon starts for late May - early August then move to evening matches.

Fees and ideally prefer other websites for hockey etc. Was just wondering if any others exist for CPL

Jesse Daley has left the club. Apparently he has really struggled with recent injuries and is going back home to Australia to recover.

I would guess Cavalry will sign Max Piepgrass to a permanent deal now. He's taken his chance and run with it.

All the best to Daley, I liked how he played

I saw a picture of Diego Gutierrez in training which is huge because that's a thin midfield group
