12 games left on the season. They must be flush with 30+ goal scorers.

But Sportsnet said they won the off season!

Ryan McLeod is having a big year too.

Reposting these two Spector gems from the last E=NG thread because it sure feels relevant right now.

And most importantly, on top of being able to hang on to two former first-round draft picks who both popped during the Oilers’ lengthy playoff run last season, they added another 23-year-old with promise in Podkolzin. And if one of Emberson or Brown gets picked up on waivers, they still have the other as defensive depth.

This, folks, is both thinking outside the box and getting things done with a Tuesday morning deadline pointing a gun straight at the heads of the Oilers' brass.

The threat of losing a pair of first-round picks — two players who were drafted and developed by the Oilers, and finally ready to help as full-time regulars in the 2024-25 season — with the return being the Blues' second-round pick (for Broberg) and a third-rounder for Holloway…?

That was insult to the injury of watching two promising youngsters be stolen, on a capped-out team that doesn’t have a ton in the pipeline.
August 20: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...smartest-move/

However, this IS a guarantee: If Bowman blinked and overpaid a couple of youngsters in Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway who have a grand total 170 NHL games played between them — giving them a far bigger piece of the salary-cap pie than they have earned — the entire model of “taking less to win” blows up.

Never mind how that would play out in a room full of veterans such as Adam Henrique, Connor Brown, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Mattias Janmark who have taken less money and term to play in Edmonton.

In short, Bowman chose $10 million in cap space over the three players — Ceci, Holloway and Broberg — and grabbed a couple of draft picks that will leave the Oilers with maximum flexibility at this season’s trade deadline.

Bowman made it clear that an Oilers' cap management plan that will be a bit of a high-wire act in the next 12 months could not be adversely altered by a pair of young players you would like to have retained, but who are not core players.

ah yes. Connor Brown, age 31 took less to be there- has made 5 Million over 2 seasons and has 12 goals (in 2 years). Holloway is one year into a deal that will make him 4.6, has 24 goals already and is 23. Bowman sure showed him!

The Edmonton Old folks home has no room for young players.

“And as I recounted back at the time when we decided not to, we wouldn’t have been able to field a team if we matched either of those offer sheets. We would’ve had to move out a very important player on our team. We didn’t have the flexibility.
I wonder if there is any sort of online available resource that would help me answer the question of whether the Oilers could have fielded a team and kept Dylan Holloway had they not previously signed the deal of the summer to Jeff Skinner?

Did the comparison, looking at the last 14 games each player has played,

Mavi
14 games, 4 g, 15a, 19 pts, +1

Holloway
14 games, 7 g, 11a, 18 pts, +8

So unless Dylan Holloway has skyrocketed up to be the second best player in the world, can the pundits please stop with the “Best Player In The World” crap because he isn’t close. Likely not even top 5 right now.

Too bad Conroy didn't make an offer sheet on these two. Can you imagine the tears?

I think there are three primary factors involved.

1. There is an attitude that McDavid and Draisaitl will do it all so everyone takes a step back.

2. Nobody gets ice time. You want players to get better? You gotta let 'em play.

3, If you dont feel valued your motivation tanks.

He can't let Nathan get too far ahead of him.

We didn't have the 3rd rounder (it is tied up in conditions) to make the offer sheet to Holloway.

Players that Oilers signed/traded for/re-signed

Connor Brown - 70GP - 8G - 15A - 25P
Jeff Skinner - 60GP - 14G - 10A - 24P
Corey Perry - 69GP - 15G - 8A - 23P
Viktor Arvidsson - 55GP - 10G - 12A - 22P
Vasily Podkolzin - 70GP - 7G - 15A - 22P
Adam Henrique - 69GP - 9G - 9A - 18P

TOTALS 63G - 69A - 132P

Players that were on the Oilers for their playoff run but are no longer with the team

Dylan Holloway - 73GP - 24G - 36A - 60P
Ryan McLeod - 67GP - 17G - 26A - 43P
Warren Foegele - 70GP - 20G - 20A - 40P
Philip Broberg - 60GP - 8G - 19A - 27P
Cody Ceci - 73GP - 4G - 18A - 22P

TOTALS 73G - 119A - 192P

When the Oilers are eliminated from the playoffs early this year, you can point a finger squarely on incompetent player management that cost the Oilers a chance at a Cup. Every personnel decision in the offseason was the wrong one. That level of ineptitude is astounding.

looks like there is a reasonable chance that none of the Oilers elite summer signings (including 2 members of the sure fire 30 goal club) will hit 30 POINTS
