The only Cavalry-related event I want to see at McMahon is a bunch of frozen Mexicans in February.
That being said, these school games are smart. Cavalry do a pretty good job with minor soccer clubs, but I'd like to see them open the doors and filling Spruce Meadows with kids one afternoon per year. That would be a cool field trip and they'd tell their parents about it, and some will definitely return.

I'd take the day off work and volunteer to chaperone the class!

I'm curious to see what the announced attendance was. Busiest game I've seen since the championship final last year. 101-103 were packed to the back row, when they are usually 25% full.
I guess there was some mega church event that brought in 5 different churches.
My takeaways from today's game:
- Great crowd for Minor Soccer Day. Nothing beats Cavalry summer afternoons at Spruce Meadows.
- I liked Piepgrass and Camargo as dual #8s. It allows Camargo to make late runs and drift into spaces a little more than if he was a traditional #10. I don't think it's the best idea against a team like Forge with a stronger midfield but today I thought it was a good call, particularly given the number of absences in the squad.
- Camargo with a great shot early in the first half and then an opportunistic pounce on a loose ball at the beginning of the second half.
- I thought Montgomery was immense today. Even his goal line clearance aside, I thought he commanded the back line well. Nice to see Kobza get in as well. Thought he was decent as well today.
- Musse with a day to forget. He's looked more like the early days of Musse this year; a lot more hot and cold.
- Overall, I didn't think we used the ball particularly well today. Some good finishing got us the 3 points but this was the kind of game where a draw would have been a pretty fair result.
- Cavs are off to Halifax next week which should be an interesting encounter. I really think that it's going to be a three-way race for league championship this year with us, Forge and Ottawa. But I'll see if Halifax can prove me wrong. I see them and York as likely fighting it out for 4th and 5th and then another gap between them and the rest of the field. We'll see if Valour can build some momentum here.

Good result given the amount of squad rotation needed. 6 U-21 players saw the pitch throughout the match.
I'm lukewarm on Montgomery at times but he was tremendous today. Was great to see Kobza back and he looked decent. Piepgrass feels similar to Loturi a few years ago; got his chance and is playing his way into the starting lineup. York were keen to hack Cavalry down with rough tackles at every opportunity. Thought Musse started strong but had a poor game in the end.
Record crowd for a CPL regular season game at 5114. Was pretty cool seeing all the extra food trucks there. Got a smash burger that was far superior to anything I would have got regularly and it was cheaper. Not bad. Parking was surprisingly easy to get out of.
It was hot as hell out there though. Gonna take some time to get used to that.
