I don't know if he is an Oilers fan, it's fine if he wants to defend the Oilers honor on how much better than they are over the Flames. But to do it in this thread he should be prepared to get dumped on. And to get upset being dumped on is ludicrous.

One of my favorites was four or five years ago where Gene and Spector did a bit from training camp, and talked seriously about how much better the Oilers would be that coming season, and the best reason they could give for that conviction was that the players and the fans really, really wanted it to happen.

I posted a tongue-in-cheek summary in an earlier iteration of this thread along with the link to the SN video. The responses were amazing because of how closely the actual content aligned with my best efforts to be as absurd as possible.

I really can't wait for hockey to start up so there is more to talk about than in the dog days of summer. That being said, I have really been entertained by the mental gymnastics (how far can one brain cell stretch anyways?) being used by oiler fans in their quest to get PK while giving up nothing in return, on the sheer basis of "everyone is secretly an oilers fan".

Today's edition of "How the Yotes and Hawks will make nonsensical moves to help the oilers win":

I stopped reading after the Hagel comparison and that the Oilers would need to pay more. No they wouldn't. Plain and simple. Kane controls everything. Hagel nothing. If Kane says yes I'll go to Edmonton but only Edmonton, Chicago will take whatever theyre offered (within reason) or lose him for nothing. So Foegele a 2024 1st and a B prospect like Lavoie would be all that i offer to start with. Its not great but not the nothing return if Kane chooses to go nowhere else and stay in Chicago. However if a 3rd party
is also retaining (hawks retain 50%) and

So there you have it, Kane costs the oilers a 2024 1st (which according to oilers fans will be 32OA) and low tier prospect, plus a cap dump. Meanwhile the yotes take a cap hit and eat up more than a quarter of their available cap for a 4th and a possible reclamation project. And then, they sign McLeod for no raise, Phil the Thrill for less than his rumored price, and Milano for half his pay last year.

But the absolute best take, presented without commentary:

Hawks retain 50% of Kanes’ salary.
send Foegele and 2023 2nd, 2024 1st and 2025 3rd.

then trade Puljujarvi and Barrie to the Coyotes for Chychrun.

I think Kane stays in Chicago until the deadline to better survey the landscape of which team to accept a move to for a playoff run. Chicago also probably gets more then when GMs get crazy than now.

Of course. Their premise requires a scenario where they are the only dance partner. And they had that last year with Keith and they still lost that trade. Why wouldn't Chicago wait until they are near the deadline and teams have accrued cap space, or at least have some players on LTIR. Since according to Oilers fans, Kane would make them champs, it means they are offering the least valuable pick available.

Chicago's best option is to send their stars to teams in the bubble that might not even make the playoffs. And then sell some of their excess cap to take bad contracts back for picks. Likewise for Arizona, being more than willing to take a bunch of retained or bad contracts at the deadline for picks in a super deep draft. There have been several examples of how expensive cap dumps are this year already.
