Yeah, someone like Hartman would be good.

My ideal July 1 would be
The rumoured Talbot deal
Brodie for Kadri
And a couple depth value signings
Thatll work

This team did finish first in the West, and second in the league.
Figuring out what happened in the playoffs is an issue, but I would not expect changes the magnitude of last off season

Flames still need to move salary to sign anyone at all. The cap space will be eaten up by Bennett, Tkachuk and the 2 goalies.
Cap Friendly shows $12.2 million in cap space with 11 forwards (including Quine and Dube) 8 defensemen (including Kylington) and Gillies on the NHL roster. T
Tkachuk and Bennett: $10 million
Rittich and Talbot: $4.5 million (backing out Gillies and his $750K)
Mangiapane - zero, assume it washes with one of Kylington, Dube or Quine)
Let Hathaway walk and still need to find $2.3 million. And you're going to want room for the deadline.
Deal Frolik with no salary retention and re-sign Hathaway and you should have about $1 million left. But I suspect the Frolik market is terrible.

I'd wait until August on those if I were Treliving. Could be some bargains.

Yeah, exactly what I’m hoping for. Slot players a little differently to start the season as well:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Kadri - Bennett
Mangiapane - Backlund - Lindholm
Dube - Ryan - Jankowski?
Rieder
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Kylington
Stone
Rittich
Talbot

Me too!
Throw in Frolik and stone getting traded, and I'd be ecstatic.

No, Jiri. I'd rather see him sign some good deals.

Chicago Wolves are independently owned team in the AHL. Their owner pays the salary of an AHL only deals they sign, not the NHL affiliated team.

I’m ok with that. Who are you dumping to get under the cap? Frolik?

I imagine he's highly sought after, Philly and Dallas just didn't want to risk the arbitration award he'd get.

Yeah I’m fine if the Flames don’t go big name hunting tomorrow. I think trades are the way to go. Talbot and maybe a depth forward like Hartman to replace Hathaway (or re-sign Hathaway but I think that’s unlikely) but I wouldn’t do much more than that.

They don’t need to move any salary before tomorrow. There is still time.

Jim Matheson @NHLbyMatty
Edm out on Donskoi and never really got involved in talks about UFA/local boy Daniel Carr. He's going to sign somewhere else...

Of course. But as you may have noticed, a lot of deals have been done already and it doesn’t get easier as the summer goes along and you are backed into a corner.

I would like to see Hathaway re-signed. You don’t want to make the Bouma mistake but is this a guy who would take a multi year one way deal? Are teams really lining up to give him big dollars and term?
In other words, does 3 by $1.2 get it done? Not a huge risk for the club as it is barely above replacement. But I suppose someone is going to offer him $2 million.

I am not especially worried about it. The teams that have been moving salary are those that are in immediate cap trouble. The Flames are not, so I don’t see the sense in fretting about it now.
