So far today you've belittled a potential rape victim and told natives they have no right to be offended.
You're on fire, dude.

The bowl is superb - I will give you that. Taking the time to defend the use of the term Redskins makes me wonder if you are worried "about things that really matter".

I don't think the Shawinigan posters are offensive, but then again in this day and age you have to know that there will be backlash against something like that

They aren't on the same level as "Redskins", but those posters are cultural appropriation at minimum, "Redface" at worst.

Hmm I knew it was the word for waterfall, but was under the impression that it was also the name for a Native Tribe from that region.

I used to be quite against changing the name, but if it has a negative impact on natives, then I believe it should be changed. Maybe it's me growing up but either way, a grand harumpf for you sir. I say harumpf!

I think their heart was in the right place - they wanted to honour the culture. Obviously some cultures take offence to outsiders donning their attire (others don't). However, it may turn out that the team asked for permission and assistance from the nation that they were emulating. That would obviously change things.

Adidas push to end racist Native American mascots:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34738147
So what happens with the Chicago Blackhawks when Adidas becomes the apparel sponsor in 2017? Is that logo offensive? Should they ask for permission to use the name and mascot like Florida State did?

That new Hawks logo looks really sharp. The eye kinda looks funny though IMO. Coulda made the eye look a little meaner.
The original Hawks logo is so damn classic though, I don't know how you can change it. I personally think a lot of the native American/Canadian imagery is a sign of respect and not prejudice, discrimination or racism. But times are a-changin.

This topic will heat up again after the Federal Appeals Court overruled the Trademark Law decision.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015...-nfl-case.html
Quote:
The Washington Redskins received an early Christmas gift Tuesday when a federal appeals court ruled against a trademark law that has been used to challenge the team’s name.
The D.C. Circuit Court ruled that the federal Lanham Act's ban on "disparaging" trademark registrations is viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.
................
The federal court in D.C. now says it’s unconstitutional for the government to refuse to register trademarks because it disapproves of the messages or concludes that they may be disparaging to others.

I'm conflicted with stuff like The Slants. Some black people use the N-word amongst themselves so I supposed an Asian band calling themselves The Slants falls in line where it's acceptable when used within it's own ethnical group?

So could I trademark the N-word and then start suing rappers for making money off of it?

Nine in 10 Native Americans say they are not offended by the Washington Redskins name, according to a new Washington Post poll that shows how few ordinary Indians have been persuaded by a national movement to change the football team’s moniker.
The survey of 504 people in every state and the District reveals that the minds of Native Americans have remained unchanged since a 2004 poll by the Annenberg Public Policy Center found the exact same result. Responses to The Post’s questions about the issue were broadly consistent regardless of age, income, education, political party or proximity to reservations.
Among the Native Americans reached over a five-month period ending in April, more than 7 in 10 said they did not feel the word “Redskin” was disrespectful to Indians. An even higher number — 8 in 10 — said they would not be offended if a non-native called them that name.
