I'm not really lumping Gen X in with Boomers. Just saying that most Gen Xers were able to afford buying a house and therefore tend to be a bit more out of touch with cost of living issues that face Gen Z.
EDIT: And yes I realize I'm generalizing/stereotyping. Not all boomers are out of touch with these issues either.

I also could be overthinking it and it could just be that Biden legalized weed and forgave student loans, two issues that were pretty huge to young people.

If anything it's a rebuke of the excesses of extremism on the OTHER end of the political spectrum... Which I guess you can take as a lesson regardless of which side you fall on.

Actually, home ownership is roughly the same among Gen X and Millennials (48% for GX and 42% for Millennials), but when you adjust for age, I don't think there is a big difference and Millennials will likely catch up or even do better. The majority of foreign home owners who own rental properties in Canada likely fall in the demographic people call Gen X as well, so that probably affects the stats.
The big difference is that Gen Xers, and even more so, Millennials have to relocate in order to buy a home and settle for smaller homes. Boomers were more likely to be able to buy anywhere, and buy more than one property.
In general, classifying people and making assumptions about generations isn't helpful and there are so many other factors at play. Younger people seem obsessed about it, which I think is just a product of marketing which is really why these cute generation names exist to begin with.

That's not really true. You can track the popularity of certain policy positions in the U.S. (e.g. student loan forgiveness, M4A, Green New Deal) and they very clearly show greater support among younger generations.

I wish they also included the actual number of voters in each age bracket with that data. Would really help to understand the full impact of the youth vote.

Interesting to me how big a chunk of the 45+ crowd voted for Fetterman. 54-45 is not a big gap for the older voters and especially not for the 65+ voters.

How much has Covid impacted these elections with fewer 65+ voters around, especially in the areas with tighter races. Plus the fact that the republicans have a lower vaccine uptake rate and presumably a higher fatality rate as a result.

Just a guess, but I suspect the effect of that is far less than a bunch of suburban voters going "ok, look, I generally vote Republican, but there's a point where they've gone too far off into crazy town".

It will be interesting to see if this momentum (if you can really call it that) could be carried through to 2024. I don't expect the GOP to change their tune, so if the Dems can capitalize on the younger demographic to show they can really make a difference, well then, they could really make a difference!

More old people will die before 2024
Need to get the youth out though
It's the worst mid-term results for the opposition vs. a first term president in decades according to an article I read so despite it being "close" it's still a massive win for Dems.

Eagerly await the Fox meltdowns over the audacity of young people to vote.
