I don't remember that. I remember a lot of fans claiming STL overpaid. I remember media orgasming over the Ceci move to free up room, and i remember both media and fans carrying water for the oilers choosing not to match to open up cap space...
Lots of re-writing here, if my interpretation of a poorly written tweet is correct.

He's saying that hindsight is the right of fans and media. He's just saying it in a garbled, grammatically-awkward way.
Edit: He's not saying that fans and media were saying they should keep both back then, he's saying that with hindsight (which is their right), it now looks like the right move.

Yeah that's some revisionist history.
I remember some chatter about how they should keep one or the other, and other chatter about that they could both go because of the price tag and upgrades would be easily found on the market.
I think there were more in the keep Holloway only group online too.
Hindsight is 20/20 and yet they can't scroll back a couple of months to see their own poor judgments of the situation but instead make up hogwash about how they knew better then.

The real answer is Oilers management should have never let it get to that point.
Based on the rumors both the asks from Holloway and Broberg were a very digestible $1.2M and $1.8M respectiveky.
Those deals should have been signed before July 1 and before any of Skinner, Arvidsson and Henrique were signed.
Oilers tried to squeeze them for closer to league minimum and got burned for it.
In the end matching wasn't really an option because they messed it up prior to that and are at the cap without both of them right now.

Those vets are taking 'discounts' because this is the 'Last Chance Saloon' and they've already made their money.

Yup, ignoring the original boneheaded mistake portrays their follow-up mistake as a difficult, "damned-if-we-do, damned-if-we-don't" decision thereby letting management off the hook somewhat.

This is what happens when you don’t have your own medical team.

Not to mention that those "discounts" look more like "premiums" so far.

And once again....precisely against whom or what competition was Edmonton savagely combating to sign these ageing superstars?

The same teams that were courting Evander Kane when he took a discount to stay long term in Edmonton.

Baghdad Bob reporting that oilers looking at 2 seconds for a top 4 D with retention. Baggy thinks that it might take an additional pick. If you believe oilerpologists, those would be pretty crappy picks…although currently they are 15th overall.
I don’t know who is doing that trade, but I guess it’s team dependent.
I think the oilers would take 2 seconds for emberson.
