Apparently Russia is pretty much abandoning most of the Kharkiv region.
Is this for real? If so, this is tremendous news for Huntingwhale's in-laws.

Rumor is Ukraine is loading up an attack north of Mariupol. If this attack happens and it cuts through the lines there (which are apparently lightly defended) this would cut off everyone in the west at Kherson by land from Russia. Well other than from the very restricted Kerch bridge.

#### yeah buddy!!

Kozacha Lopan has been liberated!! Big celebration in our house today and with the wife's family in Poland . The lady in that photo is the mayor of KL who has been in hiding since the invasion. The Russians made it known that she was a target for assassination so she apparently has been in a hidden location since. The building behind her is one of the location the Russians used as storage. My MIL and her sister worked as "volunteers" there and were rewarded with boxes of food supplies. That is how they were able to get food for themselves and their household.

https://www.unn.com.ua/ru/news/19938...-kontrolem-zsu

The video on this link shows some of the KL residences celebrating with UA soldiers. My wife is soooooo f'ing happy right now. She knows most of the people in that video, and a couple of the soldiers are from KL and she went to school with. How satisfying it must be for those young men to have liberated the very village they grew up in. The group shot at the end includes my wife's cousin's fiancé in the photo.

Glad my FIL left earlier this week, as the border crossing point close to KL was shut down a few hours ago. However the good news is that the road to Kharkiv has not only been re-opened for people to head more inwards to Ukraine, but that road was also a main supply road towards Izyum, so that is back in UA hands.

Almost surreal this has happened after months where it looked hopeless.

Have waited for months to see the LiveUA Map a nice shade of blue in that region and that filthy red polygon shoved to the side.

Basically there was a meeting on the war and one of the generals said they’ve lost the war. Maybe another candidate for the window brigade?

It really does seem like Russia just doesn't have the troops to hold any territory behind their front lines. They've got everything spread out over the front lines in Eastern Ukraine (which is a one of the hardest places in the world to hold). Each time the Ukrainians break through that line they seem to be able to push very far behind it.

Now that Putin is getting backed into a corner with his pants down in front of the world, I really hope he's not desperate/stupid enough to start using WMDs.

Never underestimate a sociopath suffering a narcissistic injury.

A reminder of what was recently posted: hopefully people don't forget about the tripe being pushed a week ago, just because someone seems to know what they are talking about doesn't mean it is accurate when their source of information is suspect or downright propaganda.

I wanted to bring to attention how Baron's Russia in Kherson front shouldn't be forgotten about with the Kharkiv offensive. Things are turning south extremely quickly there now that the Izyum front has collapsed.

I want to hear his take on what's going on right now, including what that BMP was doing. Maybe it was a Ukrainian BMP in disguise as Russians don't run and maybe it was a trap and a turkey shoot?

This war is over even if Putin doesn't want to concede. His generals have started turning on him.

Zelensky recently posted this to Russia:

"Do you still think we are one people? Do you still think you can scare us, break us, force us to make concessions? Don't you really get it? Don't you understand who we are? What we stand for? What we are all about?

Read my lips:
Without gas or without you? Without you.
Without light or without you? Without you.
Without water or without you? Without you.
Without food or without you? Without you.

Cold, hunger, darkness and thirst are not as frightening and deadly for us as your friendship and brotherhood. But history will put everything in its place. And we will be with gas, light, water and food... and WITHOUT you!"

When this war is over, will people remember how much the USA and UK helped Ukraine?
Will they remember how pathetic France, Germany, Italy, and Japan were in their aid?

People often give the USA a hard time for their involvement in global conflicts. I don't think anyone will shame them for their contributions in this war. But I also don't know if people will acknowledge their contributions. Or remember them for any meaningful amount of time.

The problem for Russia is they have now created an implacable enemy with a dagger pointed to their heart, by losing this war they both allow and also force Ukraine to become a sort of East European Israel, constantly training and preparing for war, equipped with the finest weapons the US and west can provide, over the next 5 or 10 years the older Russian gear gets replaced with M1's and F16's and the like.

Russia, even if it never plans another war with Ukraine again will have to deploy the bulk of its armed forces around Ukraine as they will/have now become an existential threat to Russia, this is a strategic #### up we haven't seen since, ironically, Hitler invaded Russia

I never believed the "Putin's a thug" rhetoric, until this war. Its starting to look like he's hasn't been playing chess with the West, or even checkers by the looks of it. Just riding a wave of western non-aggression as Europe looked to integrate Russia over the last 20yrs. In the end this war looks to be a total wipe out for the current leadership of Russia.

I wonder what the mood is now in all of the surrounding former eastern bloc countries? They had to deal with the threat of a possible Russian invasion in the back of their minds for decades, but now thanks to Ukraine Russia is going to be completely irrelevant on the world stage for decades to come. Maybe the Chechen separatists start making some real noise again?

I think Ukrainians will be erecting a monument of Blinken and Biden when this is all over. I get the sense they are very grateful for the support from the USA and UK in particular. Especially after the delivery of the HIMARS.

As for the rest of the world, there will be a new appreciation and respect for the US war machine, and the necessity of the maintenance of the arsenal of democracy. There will also be stronger pressure in other NATO countries to take the 2% goal seriously.

I honestly wonder where Ukraine would be if Trump was still in power. It actually bothers me how different this timeline could have been.
