There's been some rumblings here and there about NYR moving on from Kaapo Kakko. That's a kind of guy the Flames should be targeting. Could pop with a change of scenery. 23, 6'2.

I believe Conroy when he says he is not handing out 6-7 year deals tomorrow so that takes us out on quite a few guys. I do wonder if he strikes out on some free agents if he goes the trade route as I am sure there are still players that teams will be fine to get out of a certain contract.

Debrusk might have a lot of options and Edmonton might be trying to free up space to get him. Not the end of the world if we don’t land him but I do think they need a winger or maybe two, a top 3 C and 2 Dmen along with the depth goalie.

They wouldn't even need to play him. Have him stay in Tampa and play every 5th game to stay in game shape.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea. Give him $10M on a one year and flip him at the deadline and sell some shirts, jerseys and see if he clicks with Huby. I think he will have better options but if he wants the most money and still potentially pick his spot at the deadline that is fine. Might be a super low return like Kane to the Rangers or Hall to the Bruins but it would still be rebuild assets.

I think Kakko is more than that. I think the Rangers have been messing with him and Laf for some time. Laf bounced back this year, but the year before that it was Kak with a good year.

...I also don't think NYR is going to be that late of a pick.

I wouldn’t call him a reclamation project yet. He just turned 23 in February and already has a 40-point season under his belt, and two other seasons with nearly a .5 ppg.

Nicholas Robertson has requested a trade out of Toronto.

Would absolutely be thrilled if the Flames can pick up Robertson and Kakko for relatively cheap.

I think Robertson is another Matthew Phillips/ Austin Czarnik-type. Too small, and plays that way.

1) I doubt very much that he has that mandate, and

2) there is nothing he can do about it, even if the mandate was given

Goaltending is likely to be a challenge. And the D is going to be awful. That makes for a bad combo. There simply aren't enough UFAs out there to make this roster playoff-worthy

VAN, EDM, LAK

are all locks, and we are aren't keeping up with

NSH, VGS, MIN, STL

and I strongly doubt we're as good as SEA or UTAH

hell, we might not be as good as CHI
