I think when all is said and done that Favre remains with the Packers myself.

The release request is nothing more than forcing the Packers hand to make something happen. They wanted him back as late as the March retirement presser. At that point they had no choice but to assume he was done. According to ESPN's John Clayton favre said he felt pressured to make a decision before he was ready and considering how he felt at that time, he decided he could not comit going forward. makes sense all around IMO.

Now the ego of Ted Thompson has taken a direct shot, and he is playing a game he cannot win. If anything when Favre in re-instated by Goodell, TT will look for something on the trade market, but not many clubs can absorb the 3 yearsand 39 million still left on his deal, which will resign TT to just bringing Favre back into the Packers fold.

There is almost ZERO chance Favre will be released putright IMO. That means he will be playing somewhere and i still think that GB is the most likely, and best, fit.

I'd say it's doubtful he stays in GB.

I also think the team has all the cards here, they can just hang on to his rights, expect him at camp as a back up and when he doesn't show up demonstrate that he's not performing to his contract.

I don't know, if he wants to come back, that's fine, it's his right, albeit a little flakey. But all his talk for the past year about how everything is about the 'team' is a little old. He's out for himself, which is fine, but enough with how the team means everything to him.

I think this Favre thing is ridiculous. Favre owes just as much to GB as GB owes to Favre. If Favre wants to wear any other color but green and gold thats pretty selfish of him, hes the one that retired and GB moved on. Now he wants to come back and they have already been developing Rodgers as their number 1 pivot and Favre doesnt want to be a backup.

I love Favre but hes become very selfish IMO.

yea I agree, he's under contract he can damn well fulfill it as far as I'm concerned unless the team deems they feel like trading him. It's not up to him to demand a release.

I guess he can ask for anything he wants, but he's not entitled to a release.

If Ted Thompson's version in Peter King's column yesterday is accurate, then it looks like Favre kind of screwed over the Packers:

On how close Favre was to returning in the spring: McCarthy says before he departed for the NFL meetings in Palm Beach on the last weekend of March, he had heard that the quarterback was interested in playing again. McCarthy called Favre, and Favre said he was seriously considering it. McCarthy said he talked with Thompson and they agreed they should take Favre back as a starter.

They got a member of the Packers Board of Directors to give them his private plane for the day, and planned to go to Favre's Hattiesburg home on the following Tuesday, from the league meetings, to iron out all the details of Favre's return. "I was just going into mass Saturday at 5 with my wife,'' McCarthy said, "and my cell phone rang. It was Brett. He said he and [his wife] Deanna talked about it, and he was going to stick to his original decision. I said, 'Are you sure?' ... And he said he was sure.''

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had a medical procedure Monday to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee.
Colts president Bill Polian announced the procedure, described as routine, on Monday night. Polian said the team's medical staff expects Manning to have "a full and complete return to action" in four to six weeks. Colts training camp begins July 25.

The newspaper reported that an unnamed source close to Henry confirmed the league said he tested positive for marijuana in May, which would be Henry's third offense and put him in line for a one-year suspension.

Early last season, the NFL ruled Henry tested positive for the active ingredient in marijuana. With the support of Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, Henry successfully appealed the ruling by arguing against the testing procedure.

The Denver Post, citing an unnamed NFL source, said Henry then missed three drug tests after that. Under the league's drug policy, a missed test is the equivalent of a positive reading.

Once again, Henry's attorney Harvey Steinberg successfully argued against testing procedures, The Denver Post reported.

Harvey Steinberg must be one heck of a lawyer.

Did anyone catch the 2nd part of ESPN's Favre interview last night? They were playing it on Sirius NFL radio, idk if they did anywhere else. Before yesterday, even despite all this turmoil, I still thought Favre would end up either back on the Packers, or more likely staying retired. But after hearing his comments yesterday, I am really starting to think that a) he WILL be back in the NFL in '08, and b) it WON'T be with Green Bay.

SI's Peter King wrote today that Packers management almost has to respond now, and he could see Favre ending up on another roster for the start of training camp by the end of the month. It's gonna get really interesting next week...

Didnt feel this fit in the Training Camp thread, so I just stuck it in here. Apparently Favre has been still using his Packers-issued cellphone, and in the phone history, repeated calls to Vikings coach Brad Childress was found. Very interesting:
