I’d imagine they’d prefer to use it on Coleman

Well they can only retain on one more player this year. Suspect this makes the Kadri trade less likely this year and then they maybe retain on Coleman to maximize value and consider retaining on Kadri over the summer. Just my guess. Don’t think they need to retain on Whitecloud to get value for him.

Do the Knights have to win the 2026 Cup to get that condtion upgraded to a 1st?
Can it be the 2027 Cup?

That cap went to Hill and Marner. Eichel and Korscak also get about $3m each more next year. They tend to find ways, but it’s not going to be a simple extension if Rasmus actually wants to get paid.

But most rebuilding teams seem to take 7-9 years to reach a point where they are good (Montreal and San Jose being the only real exceptions I can think of).

Agree again with a lot of your post.
It was spoken at length years ago that proper rebuilds require self reflection and cutting quick. So a point of frustration for many that we didn't do that, which is frustrating from two perspectives in that we wasted development time and we didn't target a strong 2023 draft.
As for picking Hart candidates, fully agree. We'll likely need one to pull out of our current decent. Gotta have a shot at it though by being in the top 10 draft picks.
Anyway I look forward to the conversation shifting from whether we're in a rebuild to assessing the quality and fit of our young assets.

Whitecloud's contract is low enough that they can probably move him without retention. Kadri has too many years left, so they probably won't retain on him. Coleman's in the retention sweet spot.

|
We sure do! Unless we back ourselves into another corner and Vegas comes and bends the Flames over again with more future firsts with conditions.

Somewhere I've thought about with Kadri is Carolina. If they're looking to move Kotkaniemi (and even if they don't), they have cap space to take Kadri's full load.
To CGY: Kotkaniemi, DAL 2026 1st
To CAR: Kadri
I'd do that.

Don’t want Whitecloud on the team. Don’t want the roster congestion.
At the end of the day you take the picks and move forward, that’s what rebuilds look like.
|
I'm willing to give Whitecloud a chance before we write him off. Maybe he becomes a serviceable defensive defenseman for the team until we find someone better.

Which fits with Ras's "it takes 2 to tango" line on After Hours a few weeks back.

So, no Parekh on the team then? Or do they shift Weegard to LHD and put Kuz to the 3rd pair with Brz?

Can you give us a quick Coles notes of what else Conroy said in regard to the trade?

Should have just kept Parekh in the juniors this year. He would have at least played a lot of hockey and dominated down there for another year.

He will have to earn his spot when given a chance.
