10.5x8 take it or leave it
Or
Win a trade by a landslide
People are talking like this is Eric Lindros here...doom and gloom and all I am actually pretty happy with either scenario considering what could have happened

Would Chucky want to sign in NYI without Barzal? That’s an ugly angle in all of this. We only maximize the return if Chucky is signing where we trade him.

If Tkachuk leaves, we should clean house... Doubt we do though.
|
If Tkachuk goes, you try and trade Markstrom ASAP. If Flames are gonna be mediocre, the #1 goalie is gonna be the first under the microscope. The Flames should try and capitalize on the return for Markstrom while they have a chance. Bring up Wolf and have Vladar start.

The team that trades the best player very rarely wins the trade when the dust settles.

Where was "one of the best in the NHL" in the playoffs?
12M would be insane
10.5 or trade....either way they are not losing him for nothing or next to nothing

Probably wherever the rest of the team was, besides Backlund

Broken hand for much of it.
He's only 24. Top playoff performers aren't made overnight.

From an outsider's perspective Tkachuk, like Gaudreau, will likely never win in the play-offs. If you can rebuild in a year or two off the assets you get for him you do it.

I guess I don't see Tkachuk as that level of player....I think he is very good but not great.
He is not a 12M a year player IMO, even 10 I would do but be worried
What happened to everyone saying he can't skate lol

Yes, that’s how it’s maximized. It doesn’t erase his trade value though… apparently we’re talking about one of the top 5 wingers in the game. He’s available for at least one controlled year, and then an additional 8. He doesn’t need to sign an extension now for a team to be very very interested and willing ti pay.

That is the main thing that scares me about Tkachuk, he is pretty slow. I wouldn't be scared of of the 10x8 etc

I suspect regardless of the return there will be a loud group on here that says it is not for next to nothing. I can’t really remember a time in any of the professional sports that I follow where two absolute studs decided they wanted to leave their former team in the same offseason. Almost unbelievable that the Flames are in this situation.

not too bold. Sure they lose offense with those two players out, but some of that production will be replaced. You also still have the coach of the year and a Vezina quality goalie.
Maybe not a division winner, but I see a team that can make the playoffs.
all depends on the lineup come October, I guess.

Yeah I’m with you and have always felt this way. I feel like everyone’s gone insane. But how can you argue with a stat line…..(easily, that’s how)

You don’t bring Wolf into a garbage sale rebuild. There would probably be a goalie coming back to salary reasons and you’d run with Vlader and whoever that is as a back up.
But I agree Markstrom will single handedly lose us 4-6 draft spots

An eastern conference team that is making a move to challenge the Lightnings might make that move and it won't be hard to get Markstrom to waive the NMC if that team is a Cup contender. Who knows, CBJ or Boston Bruins might be that team.

Barzal is only one season away from being in the same position Tkachuk is now (RFA with a high QO who could easily accept it walk the following year). If you trade Tkachuk for Barzal, you are just pushing off the problem until next year.
