I’m just glad we can maintain the status quo. I prefer this team stays average for the coming future and never takes risks into taking the next step.

Later Friday afternoon, multiple sources close to the situation who have kept Hockey Now in the loop for months confirmed to VHN that Golden Knights trade talks were indeed underway. However, one league source added cautioned that the Golden Knights have competition.
“Don’t sleep on Calgary or Colorado,” the source said.
But as Friedman asserted, the Golden Knights are the front runner for the 25-year-old injured center who is forcing his way out of Buffalo, in part because of a disagreement over how to treat Eichel’s injured neck.

At least he wouldn't be in the division. But imagine a MacKinnon Eichel 1 2 punch down the middle

I feel like a broken record but Krebs is considered to be a better prospect.
I know that sucks. We may want to believe otherwise but that's the reality.
Krebs is the best prospect for either franchise and the one that has top line upside.
If Buffalo wants a quality deal not quantity, it's going to be tough to beat.

You know what, Elliotte?
Shut up. You don’t know what’s going on. Nobody seems to. Everything you’ve said has turned out to be false.
Let us know when the deal is done.

Colorado has to be careful… Mackinnon is only a few years from free agency and his cost is going to be huge. He will easily be able to demand the highest salary in the NHL. Would hate to not be able to afford MacKinnon because eichel is on the books.
Not that eichel isn’t a great player but MacKinnon is at a whole other level than virtually any player in the game.

The lack of trade chips are definitely his fault. The Hamonic trade was so crippling sending prime assets away for a pretty crappy player.
I feel like the Flames have the chips. Tkachuk, Dube, Valimaki, Coronato, Zary, Pelletier, Wolf, 2 2nds next year, all future 1sts. (Some of those chips are harder to spend now than they were in the summer)
They could have made this deal happen and for me I wish this was the moment where Treliving took his shot and laid it all out for that potential franchise talent in his prime.
You brought in Darryl, you have Markstrom, you can probably keep Johnny (especially with Eichel), you have Lindholm, Hanifin, Andersson all signed for the next 3 years minimum for under $5M each. Go get the superstar center who has 5 years left on his deal and legitimately chase the Cup

Might be homerism but I think the Flames offer is quite a bit better than the Vegas one

Even so, if you up the quality of the other pieces, maybe you can top it despite not having any prospect that tops Krebs in their view. Like - do you have someone better than Smith/Cormier or whatever Vegas is offering for picks?

Dube isn’t better than Smith as of today, but he’s way younger and cheaper with an upward trajectory. Poirier and Cormier are both smallish highs coring defencemen from the Q - I couldn’t tell you who’s better.

On second thought here, if Hanifin has to be included to compete I think you consider it and then try to line up another trade later for a D to replace him if you can. Tough to do though but Eichel is necessary I think. Calgary has to get this.

I would consider Mangiapane but it would depend on what +++ we are talking about. He is looking to be developing into a star…
