Yeah. Imo all royalty revenue should be considered capital, and should go to debt reduction/heritage trust fund, and then spend 100% of the sustainable income from the fund (say 4% of starting balance per year) as general revenue. That would be a big reduction in current revenues, so maybe the first $x billion per year (not indexed) could also be general revenue to try and wean our government of royalty dependence.

I'd rather we institute a 5% HST and put ALL royalty revenue into a fund (not Heritage fund) with the growth of the fund (after inflation) going towards specified areas (education, income tax reduction etc.)

What a ####ing embarrassment. They do know she was arrested and is awaiting a court hearing for her illegal actions, right? Are we a country of laws, or do we just honour any podunk ####face who shares the views of our incompetent brainless dope of a premier who ignores actual experts? Nothing like celebrating stupidity. Well done, UCP. Well done, again. May as well make Theo the LtG while you are at it, you morons.

Heck, there are people on this site that are willing to vote for them if it gets Calgary some arena cash.

on another note,
I have a friend that has changed. Used to be a pretty reasonable mainstream conservative, but he's taken a turn to the right.
He's the kind of guy the UCP is targeting.

He doesn't understand that that others just want the same privileges and advantages he's gotten as a straight, white male. Instead he feels like something is being taken from him and he just wants it back. The way society is changing to be more inclusive upsets him and the language some in the UCP use I believe gives him comfort. I think guys like my friend if they agree with some of what the UCP says, they'll go along with the rest of what they do.

Tale of two budgets one Province over. Could get ugly in BC quick if housing tanks.

I think it's better to spend a specified percentage of the fund vs the growth, because then you trade oil price budget swings for stock market budget swings.

I also dislike specified uses. Spend the money the best possible way- earmarked funds inevitably leads to boondoggles.

Wasn't there a $13 billion surplus projected when Kenney left? Did she blow through $10 billion of that?

BC posting an 11 Billion deficit over 3 years?

They're estimating lower resource and corporate revenues compared to last year when WCS and natural gas was much higher for large periods of time.

Spending up about 2.5B in the budget

The 13B surplus was for the fiscal 2022/23 year . This is projection for next year

Yep turn it into an annuity 2-4% spent after inflation goes into general revenues. Fix oil price at $50 WTI indexed for inflation and balance the budget based on that.

Over time taxes are lowered by the dividend from the wealth fund paying for services as oil becomes less and less important.

I meant to post this the other day and forgot but during the Smith/Copping press conference on health care Smith essentially confirmed there would be an election in May so anyone that was concerned about a potential delay can be ease knowing they will get a chance to vote soon.

I mean it was pretty obvious the election was going to get called. The amount of ads I have been seeing from the UCP is amazing. It seems there is one on every break on the radio and TV. They must be scared if they are pumping this much into attacking the NDP before it is even called.
