Its not the visibility that is the issue, its that they could go in a number or different directions.

They could keep on rocking and go right, they could chill and go left, but if they decide not to pause and just cross...now we've got problems.

Its not an 'Either/Or' kind of thing.

I’ll take cyclists over car drivers who can’t keep their hands and eyes off of their phones.

It sure seems like it. Maybe not in your case but I rarely have negative interactions with cyclists because I give them a wide berth, and worst case I’ll get a scratch in my paint instead of… death. I’m just glad they’re not another vehicle hogging the road, pumping out (noise and air) pollution.

I suspect what they were thinking was "wow, this guy in the far lane is going to blow right through this crosswalk, he didn't see this guy in the near lane slowing down to let me though... let me put my hands out to demonstrate to him how annoyed I am while slowing down so that I'll coast through in front of this guy in the near lane and behind the jerk in the far lane as soon as he clears the crossw- OW #### OW OW"

Saw a great one this morning, a guy blew the three way stop at the end of my block and then promptly pulled up in front of the elementary school to drop off his kid. Jumps out with his phone apparently super glued to his hand. He just couldn't put it down.

Motorists are the biggest babies ever, acting like its a huge deal that they have to drive and little slower or stop for 20 seconds while they are sitting in a climate controlled car playing music to keep them entertained. Life is so hard, now I am going to be 5 minutes late to pet land.

Crabs in the bucket. They’re ####ing miserable, so everyone else must be.

Want to see rage? Deep, hatred fuelled rage? Put along the shoulder past a 2 mile long line of four-wheel vehicles at a stop, while on an air cooled motorcycle in full gear on a 35 degree day. You quickly realize people don’t give a literal #### about anything but ensuring others are as miserable as them.

No.

I dont want to hit someone and risk a severe injury to them just because they assume that since they have 'rights of way' that physics dont come into the equation.

Being 'right' is small consolation when you're in the Hospital in traction or worse.

People complain about 'whiny motorists' when I'm complaining about a cyclist who didnt take 2 seconds to acknowledge his surroundings and his conditions because he thought he was 'right' despite the fact that he was essentially operating a vehicle on the sidewalk and 'believed' he had the right of way.

Despite seemingly not realizing that the consequences of his actions, for him, are very high.

I've already had two vehicles swerve towards me on the roads this year to try and scare me, two lanes each direction in residential, no way I was impeding them. Them hanging out the window yelling confirmed they are garbage
I don't think it occurs to them that intentionally hitting someone isn't a ticket, it's a court date.

The common denominator here seems to be people, thus, we can conclude that people are garbage regardless of their mode of transportation. Garbage people walk, ride bikes, ride e-scooters, ride motorcycles, and drive cars. Garbage people: they’re everywhere.

This is terrible advice and is a reason cyclists get hit. When you only ride on the shoulder, or edge of the lane, cars think they can sneak by you without hitting you. Often, they are wrong. If the cyclist takes the lane, the car understands it can't get by and will (hopefully) wait until there is a spot to pass. A cyclist should take the lane when there isn't at least 1 metre of safe passing space.

The Calgary specific bylaw states you are allowed to ride on all Calgary roadways except Deerfoot Trail, and to take the whole lane if required for safety, but should ride as close to the curb as is safe to do so. If it's not safe to be near the shoulder, then you take the lane, at all times.

Be predictable. That's all I ask. Going slower than literally everyone else, stopping in the middle of the street for reasons that only exist in your head, or darting out from a side turning when you don't have the right of way and giving me bugger all time to react is not being predictable.

I propose humans no longer be allowed to drive or cycle. They must be chauffeured by chickens. Y'know why?
Spoiler!

#### that. Cyclists should get on the sidewalk if there isn't room on the street. IDGAF that isn't legal, but it's safer and sidewalks are honestly barely used in most areas. Pedestrians on the sidewalk? Cyclist can go slow. Or take their chances on the street. But inconveniencing cars is off the table. On a 50km/h road the last thing we need is some tit in spandex going 17km/h.

It's not off the table, it's the law. Sorry you don't like it, but until we get safe separate infrastructure, sidewalks aren't really a great option. But the fact is, most 50km/h roads are wide enough for sharing(the width), otherwise they are 40km/h roads. And if a cyclist has taken the lane, it's probably because there is no other choice, and it will be for a short distance. Chill. You'll get by soon.

Nope. Not chilling. Well, I'm not upset either. I would never get mad or put a cyclist in danger whilst in my car, so don't worry.

But we have the infrastructure. It's a sidewalk. They're everywhere. Let's do a thing where pedestrians have to take three steps on the grass when a bike dings their bell to pass. Boom done. And it's free.
