You have to feel bad for Rogers... the kid's chance has been delayed too many times because Farve continues to pull a Clemens.

I'd hope that the Pack would do the right thing and either trade Rodgers (especially since they drafted Brohm) or tell Favre he's welcome to come out of retirement but he'll have to do so with a different team.

Not sure why anyone would "lose respect" for a guy just because he has changed his mind about wanting to play football for another season.
Its not like he was a bad QB last year, in fact he had his best statistical season since he won the superbowl. He was one FG from leading his team to yet another Superbowl in fact.
As for him playing for another team....why the hell would he want to do that? The Packers are his team and he has 2 years left on his contract to prove that. The Packers on the other hand may wish to go forward with rodgers at the helm, but it would be suicidal PR wise to force that scenario IMO.
I feel sorry for Rodgers if this in fact happens, but thats the way of the NFL. Guys get bumped down the depth chart every year because someone else is much more experienced/better/ready. And lets be honest, Rodgers simply has no track record behind him to prove he can be a #1 guy at this point.
Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are the guys that need to talk to favre and get a decision one way or the other. McCarthy, I have a feeling, would be absolutely thrilled to have Favre back as he is not only the head coach but also the QB coach and as such has a gameplan that works with #4 under center.
I still am not sure that Favre decides to play, but if he does, the vast majority of Packer nation and most FB fans will welcome it with open arms.

Im sure Farve would be welcomed back with open arms. I have no problems with Farve having second (at this point the count is around 10) thoughts about retiring. It's tough enough to walk away from a job when youre in your 50s or 60s let alone your mid to late 30s.
My problem is he makes these grand exits with farewell ceremonies, tears, press conferences, tributes, etc... right at the end of the season. Even if he's 99% sure at the end of the season, take some time away to think about it and dont let the emotions of the season drive your decision. Make the decision several months later.
Rodgers does not have any track record to prove he can be a number one guy. Obviously the Packers arent too confident in him because they drafted Brohm (another meh QB). Still, the kid has been given zero opportunity in games little in practice with Farve taking the majority of the snaps with the number one unit.
Retire or come back for another season - Farve is a HOF QB and IMO gets overlooked too often as among the best ever. But this back and forth stuff has to end. Green Bay needs to set a date for a decision and be firm with it.

Once....the rest of it was completely media created.

I definitely agree that the media hype magnifies it. I still believe he's a distraction when he's a hanger on.
The Ducks gave Niedermayer a deadline of July 1st, but he still had another year on his contract. Clemens did the same crap the past few years.
Im not saying dont come back, but I dont like the way he handled it. Ripken and Gretzky retired with grace after a farewell tour. Numerous others wait until the offseason so they can think.
The report has been denied by Farve, so until he says otherwise, I believe him because the 24-7 ESPN news needs filler. Whatever he does, I hope this is the final decision.

Pretty cool story. He's always seemed like a great guy. Not formally trained, but observant enough to grasp the general concept.
I think most everyone should learn basic CPR and first aid. You never know when something like this will happen.

I'm not sure if this story is real or a joke? Maybe both.

Two years ago, Terrell Owens tested the patience of North Texas children by showing up fashionably (six hours) late to his own football camp. The camp was such a success that he decided not to hold it in 2007, but this afternoon, kids ranging from ages 7-17 gathered at Duncanville High School in the Dallas suburbs to learn from the Cowboys' All-Pro receiver.
|
Quote:
Owens talked to the kids about avoiding accidental drug use and other pitfalls.

Rosenhaus then talked to them about the pros and cons of incentive-laden contracts and passed out a few cards.

Jags WR Matt Jones arrested for possession of cocaine. Sounds like there's some pretty serious evidence behind it too.
Quote:
The 25-year-old Jones and two other former Arkansas football players were inside a Toyota SUV in Fayetteville just after 12:40 a.m. Thursday when officers approached. Officers saw a card covered in a white powder in Jones' lap as he used a credit card to scrape it, a police report said.
Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was cocaine, the report said.

What a waste. He had issues before this anyway and was not even guaranteed to make Jacksonville's team this year.

...probably just annoyance on my end, but he's driving me crazy. On a side note, if he does get his release, word is he will probably end up in the NFC South or in the North elsewhere. Personally I could see him in Carolina, Minnesota or Chicago.

If he signs with the Vikings, I will puke and stop watching NFL for a year. I'd rather have a 90 year old man play QB than Brett Favre.
It's like Steve Yzerman playing for Chicago, Jarome Iginla playing for the Oilers....ugh.

Montana was a different situation completely. He was sitting on the bench backing up Steve Young and asked to be traded to a team that would let him play. Farve had a tearful retirement press conference where he apparently retired.
Anyhow, I can't wait for training camp to start so there is something to take my mind off of the Flames recent FA signing. (I'll shut up now)

GOAT!

I've been thinking about this... I think if he comes back with another team, he's going to have to win it all just to save face. I mean, sure he didn't win the Superbowl, but (overall) last season was a pretty awesome way to go out.
Having said all that, though... the guy is an absolute legend to me, and I'd love nothing more than to have one more season of watching him play football.

You're right. My point was in response to the people saying it'll be weird to see him in another jersey. Nobody thought Jerry Rice would ever play for another team and he ended up signing with 3 different teams after he left the Niners.

Any chance Favre goes to Miami? I ask because when the word first came out that he might make a comeback I read somewhere that the Fins would consider moving Jason Taylor to the Pack for Favre.

My guess is he'll go somewhere not cold.
Maybe Minnesota (Dome) or some coastal team like TB/MIA/SF/CAR/SEA/ARI. Maybe Texas.
Yes, my Seahawks.
Maybe Holmgren would stay on another year (or not) after his if Favre comes back, then the two can walk hand in hand into the sunset.
SEA is tight-ish against the cap, but if SEA could hoodwink a team into giving up a fair bit for Hasselbeck in a trade (another thread, but my disdian for the guy is known, making rookie errors and dumb mistakes that makle you think this is his 2nd year in the league when its his 10th) and get a decent backup that will pick up after Favre is gone (Seneca Wallace watches and thus makes the same idioit moves Hasselbeck does), and a decent draft pick, then it may be a good move for now and for the future.
They could probably keep Hasselbeck too, not sure if that would fly on a number of fronts though.
Long shot (ESPN article has it at 60-1) but not impossible.
