I believe in the Jays.
|
The first half was pretty bad, but the half times subs made a huge difference and we dominated the second half.
I think I saw Baldissimo in a leg brace as well, guessing he’s not back for a while. Laing also went out with a hamstring injury.

Fun second half. They could have probably had a couple more.
Cavs have outscored opponents 13-1 in their last four CPL games. (11-0 in their last 3)

If Kamdem and Laing are both going to miss significant time, we’re going to start looking pretty thin in the back end. I don’t there has been any recent news on Kobza but last I hear he was still a ways away. We’ll be relying heavily on Field and Montgomery and I thought Montgomery didn’t look particularly strong today - particularly in the 1st half.
Overhead an interesting rumour today.. apparently Klomp isn’t happy with his lack of playing time in Belgium and is considering a return to the CPL. Not sure what that looks like contract wise (if it’s even possible) but would be amazing to see him back with Cavalry.

I've heard Kobza's return was original targeted for June and he is close to training
Klomp has been in Calgary a few weeks now. Signing in Belgium wasn't his first choice and he has really regretted the decision. He won't get anywhere near what he was offered in the offseason but maybe they can work something out with Trafford's retirement and if Kamdem is out for the season which is the current rumour.
One silver lining is Michael Harms looked very good in his cameo last year and has been playing LB with the U-21s. I really rate him.

When Tobias and Musse are on the pitch together, the team looks so dangerous.

I think Camargo on the field with them is huge as well. His ability to make quick decisive passes to open up space really unlocks those guys.
And man, Aird is back. I was worried about him at the start of the season, but he continues to be the best wide distributor of the ball. With him and Wahling going, we've now got two great options.
I really hope Herdman can regain some form so we have something down the other side.

Some quick hits from a brief watch through of the game https://open.substack.com/pub/canadi...eOnShare=false
I'll finally be able to attend the game on the 8th again. Hopefully the goals keep coming

Great write up again.
I am a bit more pessimistic about Wahling, but it was nice in the second half that he was trying to test the limit for how physical he could be without fouling.
Shome to me, is one of the most valuable players on the team It would go Tobias, Musse, Shome for me. it is always fun to watch him direct traffic when moving the ball from the back. You're right, another outlet option is needed.
One thing I appreciate is that the Cavs have moved away from tossing deep 50/50 Balls as their primary outlet plan. There were a few times that this burned them with deep D zone give aways, but I would always prefer a ball on the foot than in the air.
RE: Laing, I think he is the real deal, I thought he made a few great aggressive interceptions last game.

If they could transfer their CPL form to the Cup matches, that would be great. They were completely out of sorts vs VFC. Need to that CPL form for the return leg.

I am pretty big on Wahling but if everyone is ticking I probably don't think he's a starter. I think he's better on the right when he's able to drop his shoulder and charge down the line and get a ball in than he is cutting in off the left. But what a great option to have off the bench to cover either wing or fullback.

Per YYC Soccer, injury updates from today's press conference
Tom Field in concussion protocol not expected to play. Kobza likely back next week. Elva should be back. Gutierrez doing some training. Kamdem being evaluated. Baldisimo maybe 3 weeks away which is faster than expected.

Has anyone gone to a game in Halifax yet? Recommendations for where to sit, what to eat/drink close to the stadium?
I’m going to be going to the cavs game in Halifax in a couple of weeks, so wanting to purchase tickets and somewhat figure out a plan for the day.

Thanks for sharing this. Nice to see an injury update, I feel that's something the league does not do well.
Kobza, Elva, Gutierrez, Baldisimo are (hopefully) four huge parts of the team and will be great to see them back within the next week to month

Any legs to this rumour? That would be unreal if he was able to come back mid season, especially in time for some Cup games.

I went to Wanderers Grounds a couple years ago. It was a Tuesday night game that was rain delayed by an hour, so I just took an Uber from my AirBnB to the game. I would like to go back during a game where the stadium is full and the weather is good to get a better experience but I enjoyed it.
My ticket was in 106 which was close to the supporters end without being in the supporters end. Hung out pregame with the person who ran Block 108 Ultras and got to hear some good stories about some of the supporter drama they've had over the years. Vibe was decent but it felt like more of a hockey crowd to me compared to Spruce. Both supporters groups chanted over each other all game. Some in the crowd were aghast at the "#### you Kieran Baskett" chants which I got a chuckle out of. Don't know if that matters to most but I'm interested in that type of thing as I like to hear what other supporters groups do at games.
The stadium was pretty bare bones when I went. Just some bleachers on a grass field. There was a bar in the corner by the supporters and a couple food trucks. Beers were discounted before the game. There's no running water so enjoy the portapotties. I think they've made a few changes but not in the bathroom / food /drink side of things.
The stadium is close to downtown so I think a lot of people go somewhere downtown and then walk up the hill to the stadium. Think there are a bunch of pubs and restaurants a 10 minute walk away.

Yes, Klomp has not been happy in Belgium. It was a panic signing and he has barely played. His club were promoted so the likelihood of him getting minutes next year is quite low. He has been in Calgary the last few weeks.
Cavalry have already signed Laing to replace him but I don't know what type of salary Laing is on so there should be room. Klomp was offered an amount that doesn't even make sense compared to the cap number.
I've been trying to pump the "Zator to Cavalry" rumours for a while but "Klomp to Cavalry" could be just as likely. Don't think there's room for both.
