There isn't really any reason to deny him credit. I would say Jones, Hunt, Klapka, DeSimone, Sutter, Meloche, and Dansk have been important pieces too. Not to mention Love and his coaching staff.

I don't understand the Conroy should be pissed off thing. If Conroy deserves the job then he will get it. I bet that it's even, a tie goes to him sort of deal.

We don't know whether he deserves the reins or not, but I would not be happy if they did not explore all of the options available.

According to this poster, ownership were not unwilling to fire Sutter. Which means I guess that they would have done it if Treliving made it a condition. So presumably if they really want a particular GM, the same applies.

Agreed. If anything, I think Conroy would be coming into a bunch of blowback from fans and outsiders saying that the Flames are so clueless that they would hire someone from inside a toxic organization without even looking at outside options.

I'd love to see Conroy get the job. Hoping it's a signal change that the organization will no longer be looking exclusively at outside options and realize that they are developing talent within that needs to be given opportunity (*cough* Phillips *cough* Pelletier *cough*).

I wouldn't be surprised if Conroy is the number 1 guy on the shortlist right now. Like any high up position in an organization, you should make it a competition. People talk about the old boys club, but then get upset when jobs aren't handed down by default.

Like you said, if he is the best candidate, he will get the job. He has a pretty big edge just due to already being in the organization.
