It’s awesome.
We have tons of tall trees as well -I could get my house down to a comfy “24-26” degrees without it most days it was >30 I am sure … but why?
Then you throw in smoke and my merv 16 furnace filter protecting us… what type of investment is your health worth?
|
Part of summer enjoyment for our family is having windows open and hearing the the sounds of summerscape. Our windows are buttoned up for 9 months of the year as is.
And if you think your merv 16 filter is protecting your health to any meaningful extent, well then... The air quality index is at 4, it's not that bad. I'm not sure if you're also implying A/C is contributing to protecting your health, I hope not.
Enjoy your A/C, we'll enjoy our windows wide open.

"Three days a year" for Air Conditioning is so ridiculous. I've pretty much used it every night this summer, even for an hour at night to keep the bedroom cool then maintain it.

I’ll have my AC switched on for like 4-5 months of the year. The cost is minimal too.

I am confused... you don't understand that with AC and when temperatures are mild like 20 degrees - you have the ablity to turn off the AC and... open your windows? But when its 30+ or smoke you can turn on AC and close your windows.
Like its best of both worlds to what fits your desire- this is honestly news to you?
As for Merv filters- yes they are protecting our health. This is 100% factual when its smoky outside. I suggest you google the PN 2.5 particle limits they recommend for a given day and compare it against Calgary when its smoky. We truly don't know the long term effects of this smoke (however lots of scary #### around PN2.5 particles), and it is crazy to me you would say well the air is only a 4 (even no, its a 5, foretasted max of 7) and therefore I will say your MERV filters don't do anything or not worth it- without any scientific claims to support.
And AC helping my health? No its not helping or hurting. Why bring this up? It does nothing positive or negative for your health.
You know how AC can indirectly HURT your health? You don't open your windows when the air is cool and clean-to get fresh air in as over time only indoor air isn't good either. But in smoke- I love my clean indoor air with my ventilation fan kicked up to a high setting to help.

Say what?
Uh, you brought up the A/C contributing to 'protecting' your health, that's why I mentioned it.

- You quoted me and you said incorrect things.
- I responded given you quoted me
- You then misquoted what I said
- I responded
- You tell me to go away
You know... you're responding to me so I respond back- like this isn't a one way conversation right? And more- you quoted me first ...

I’d have to check my numbers to quantify it. But there is no sizeable difference in my summer and winter bills.

This was the hottest august in the history of Calgary and it’s not crazy to think it’ll be one of the coolest summers of the next 25 years. AC is gonna go from a luxury to almost necessity.
The days of “we don’t get hot summers” is long gone.

It’s also missing the point a bit because I didn’t bring up AC for the sake of mentioning AC. I was comparing me and my neighbours. I refuse to believe anyone thinks it’s totally normal to keep all your windows open when it’s 34C and smoky.
The fact I’m only comfortable because I have my AC pumping is another story. Even without AC, there’s no goddamn way I’d have my windows open all afternoon when it’s this hot and smoky.
