Dan McLean is very likely going to be the token obstructionist on Council. He's in the Farkas/Nickel camp when it comes to municipal strategy. I also hope Demong shows him the ropes.

He seem like we was part of that take back city hall group.
I also got a bit of a chuckle on his website.

Just before his Stampede breaskfast him and his supporters mocked me when I mentioned that I would continue wearing a face mask in July through to at least schools opening up.
So...there's that.

Personally I hope he runs for Premier.

I think he might suffer the same fate as O'Toole. It doesn't matter how progressive he is if the party behind him doesn't change. Maybe his charisma overcomes that, and maybe he also changes the party, or more likely the party would need to change before they would chose him as leader.

So the leadership race gives each riding the same amount of votes when selecting a leader. This means he could gather registrations of the major cities especially in areas with smaller riding associations in order to counter act the pro lifers and win seats.
To understand his chances you would really need to understand the make up of the PCs in Ontario.

O'Toole made the right calculation, don't worry about the crazy right base, they wont vote for anyone in numbers that can actually cost you the election. Actually make some appeals to the center, and try to with the was instead of winning the twitter battles. His problem is the center didn't believe him, we've all eaten a gift wrapped conservative turd before.

Nenshi as the federal Conservative leader would be hilarious just to watch the backpedaling from all the people who've spent the last 11 years calling him "Spendshi".

I can't for the life of me imagine why the RWNM is doing everything they can to spin Gondek as some ultra-left screeching woke machine.
I like Gondek but lets be real, she is incredibly centrist and has deeper ties to the developer community than I'm comfortable with. Just because your uber-libertarian weirdo didn't get elected doesn't mean the actual mayor-elect is going to turn everyone trans.
Of course these same people pretended Nenshi had economic political alignment with the NDP for 10 years so I guess it shouldn't be that surprising.

If Nenshi ever gets back into politics I imagine it won't be for a few years after the batteries are recharged. Sounds like he's a little worn out, wanting to focus on mental and physical health. I personally think he would make for a better premier or federal party leader than he was a mayor.

Symphonies, choirs, artists, bands etc.
If you go into the detailed bullet it talks about how Calgary gets significantly less grant money per capital from outside sources than other cities due to lack of support from the city and she is planning on fixing it.

Good. Creative industry investments are what creates vibrancy, color, and interest in facilities downtown and around the city. Things like events, artistic programming, and festivals are essential to successful, functioning city.

The Returning Officer has denied all recount requests and will certify the counts as released on Tuesday: https://newsroom.calgary.ca/returnin...ount-requests/
Quote:
All requests submitted by candidates in the elections listed above were filed pursuant to section 98(1)(a). The Returning Officer considered the information provided by the candidates and determined that there were insufficient grounds for alleging that the record of the result of the count of votes is inaccurate. In addition, The Returning Officer has considered the other circumstances under which a recount may be conducted (sections 98(1)(b) and 98(1)(c)) and has determined that there are not sufficient grounds to make a recount.
As a result, all recount requests have been denied and the candidates in those elections have been advised.
Official Oct. 18, 2021 General Election results will be issued by Elections Calgary before noon on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 in accordance with the Act.

A historic alignment of Calgary and Ottawa against Canada's oil and gas sector

Quote:
...Jyoti Gondek told an interviewer that her first big act would be to declare a “climate emergency,” so the city can “move past” oil and gas. It’s a foolhardy mission that will see political leaders in Ottawa and Calgary aligned in their opposition to Canadian energy.
