Not cancellation of everything. No point in cancelling given where we are today, but cancel games for next x amount of weeks and assess the situation.

Cancelling early is the right thing to do, as much as it sucks. The difference between cancelling proactively and reactively will have a massive impact on the number of deaths.
Places like South Korea, China (outside Hubei), and Singapore have had fairly extreme, proactive policies put in place very early, and their death rates are hovering around 0.5-1%. Places like Italy and Iran that didn't "flatten the curve" enough, are looking at 5-10%. You have to act before it looks bad.

Given the uncertainty regarding next steps regarding the coronavirus, Clubs are advised not to conduct morning skates, practices or team meetings today.

Not that it really matters over the grand scheme of what's happening... but on the financial side, if the season's outright cancelled:
- I presume players are just paid a % of their salary based on games played, and any bonuses they've hit?
- Presume ticket costs are refunded for any cancelled games?

Games won't be canceled yet. Play will be suspended, I expect.

That's exactly how I see it as well.
God hath laid down his hammer to restore natural order. Good luck replicating what was a near perfect season on all fronts next year, b#####s.

Right, so the NBA has suspended their season and playoffs, forfeiting hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue because we have twitter now.
Nothing to see here folks.

You haven't even informed yourself to actually understand the basics of this - such as the fact that the very young are not having difficulty. In fact the very young seem to be doing the best with this.
For god's sake at least educate yourself before your spout off.
And your blaming of the media is disgusting - suggesting that they are only interested in ratings.

Suspended just means taking a wait and see approach.
It might be the case where a shortened season or playoffs is implemented in 2 months time based on the standings of today.
I have no problem with businesses or sports leagues, what have you, to take a wait and see approach with this.

If I was the league I would call the regular season today. Announce that the final standings are based on point percentage or the number of points a team had after 68 games. Then announce that they will re-evaluate the playoffs on April 1st and on an on-going basis until such time that playoffs are no longer feasible.
No real reason to go back and play regular season games in the second week of April, the playoffs would stretch on until mid July if that was the case (plus the difficulty in getting venues in some places in April if other large events are back on by then).

If Rudy Gobert were to be publicly beaten I think we'd all be ok with it at this point. Lucky for him, large gatherings are banned.

That's a little extreme. The reality is that a lot of people just don't care or take this seriously. I'm considering not going to my gym until this runs its course as the same guys that weren't hand washers before are still not hand washers today which is disappointing. Either they are oblivious or don't care but people like this unfortunately are everywhere.

He's a complete idiot. What he did at the press conference was ridiculous. Hope he gets fined.

All over the news but two other sports leagues:
PGA carrying on for the time being but without fans starting tomorrow.
MLS season suspended indefinitely.

So I take it starting a GDT probably isn't necessary?

They're both all-stars too, which increases the apparent magnitude of this. Not just two guys off a G League team that nobody knows.

Rudy Gobert deserves all the public ridicule he will get. Jazz players saying he was careless in the locker room too, flagrantly touching other players etc.
WHat an asshat.
