I think it was still a good one. Based on historical data, the pick position we ended up trading has a higher chance of being nothing than of reaching even Hamonic’s level (2nd pairing defenceman). People just like new, shiny things.
In fact, to stand a higher than 50% chance of getting a player even as good as Bennett is now, the return would’ve had to be the 8th pick (or higher). Pretty much anything less would’ve been bad value for Bennett.
