I'd probably put my money on the caveman especially if the astronaut was in full gear. Caveman would just smash him with a club until he stopped moving. Now that's a mental image I didn't imagine ever having

Spike: It's bollocks, Angel! It's your brand of bollocks from first to last.
Angel: No, you can't ever see the big picture. You can't see any picture!
Spike: I am talking about something primal. Right? Savagery. Brutal animal instinct.
Angel: And that wins out every time with you. You know, the human race has evolved, Spike!
Spike: Oh, into a bunch of namby-pamby, self-analyzing wankers who could never hope to...
Angel: We're bigger. We're smarter. Plus, there's a thing called teamwork, not to mention the superstitious terror of your pure aggressors!
Spike: You just want it to be the way you want it to be.
Angel: It's not about what I want!
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: Sorry. Is this something we should all be discussing?
Angel: No.
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: It just sounds a little serious.
Angel: It was mostly... theoretical. We...
Spike: We were just working out a - Look, if cavemen and astronauts got into a fight, who would win?
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: Ah. You've been yelling at each other for 40 minutes about this.
[pause]
Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: Do the astronauts have weapons?
Spike, Angel: No.
Some more quotes from the episode regarding the fight:
Spike: Harmony just pulled me out of a very promising poker game down in Accounts Receivable, so this better be good. Oh, and, by the way, all the guys down there agree that astronauts don't stand a chance against cavemen, so don't even start.
Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: But that doesn't make any sense.
Lorne: I just call it like I see it.
Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: But the cavemen have fire. That's what they live with in their caves. The astronauts should at least have some sort of weapon.
Fred: Cavemen win. Of course the cavemen win.
Highlights
-Assume even teams(not stated, but implied)
-The cavemen are smaller than modern men and less intelligent
-The astronauts have no weapons
-The cavemen may be armed with fire
-The cavemen are likely stricken with fear from the strange astronauts
-The astronauts understand tactics

I see many on HF also think the Can####s are far superior and should win relatively easily in 5 or 6 games. Very possible if the officiating is poor and Hiller/Ramo let in too many soft goals but I don't think these teams are that far apart. Bottom line is that I fear the officiating and Hiller/Ramo inconsistencies doing the Flames in over the Canucks outplaying them.

To be honest, I haven't watched much of Horvat, but looking at the stats, it appears that the Flames' rookie comparable is Jooris.
Trying to get him into the Calder discussion is just a little too much.
I suppose if they Flames didn't have any other rookies, Flames fans would be overrating Jooris, though too.

I'm not comfortable with so many analysts picking the Flames to win this series. More superstitious than anything, but the only time Calgary has had any success in the playoffs for the last 25 years is when they were the clear underdog

This series is basically a cointoss, it balances on the edge of a knife.
Youth, enthusiasm and hunger could prevail or there could be soft goals allowed when defences really tighten up.
Experience and depth could prevail or they could be forced to play outside of their comfort zone and lose.

I dunno... seems quite a bit like "The Edmonton Oilers are no good" but with the Flames.
Sounds almost like an inside joke. not much of a big deal at all

in my mind, flames are an obvious underdog here. Canucks key players at every position have vast playoff experience. They have a solid mix of high end skill and gritty role players that can put the puck in the net, and their top D men have no real glaring deficiency.
Goaltending could be a toss up, both teams have had good to moderately unpredictable goaltending all year.
My fear is that the big stage causes some of the key flames players (youth) to play overly cautious, get behind and then make glaring mistakes if they panic.
Flames only shot is if they get solid goaltending, and if they're young kids play like they don't know any better (ie. don't cramp up due to the situation) and cash in on their opportunities..
It's plausible, just hope the team doesnt' come out tight, overly-nervous and overwhelmed at the big stage.

Superstition and history have nothing to do with winning playoff series.
The Flames have finally corrected many of the organizations weaknesses that have plagued the past.
They have finally drafted talented impact players. They have depth. They have work ethic. They have a great coach.
This new era of the Flames isn't the one we grew up with.
Flames in 6.

I watched both players in the OHL, especially Horvat. In no way has he ever been or ever will be as good as Monahan. Not even close.

Very few actual Canucks fans think he's better than Monahan. Just trolls.
I'm interested to see if the Flames have the depth to match up with the Canucks. Flames will need production from someone other than their first line.

The Canucks scored one more goal than the Flames did, and allowed 6 more.

^Also, take into account how many empty net goals they scored.

I think that I did the math of the 251 goals that the Flames scored, the first line and defense combined had well over half of the goals.
So they got some production from lines 2 to 3.
The problem for the Canucks, is not as much the first line as the question of if we press the Flames defense the fast forwards should be able to eat the Canucks slower blueline alive. But if they focus on checking Calgary's first line they give a lot of space to Calgary's defense.
Offensively the Flames are a lot more multi-dimensional then the Canucks.

Wideman and Brodie are going to get some good chances IMO.
