I don't think he'd ever go to Liverpool either for 2 reasons

with him they still aren't CL level and I don't see him stepping down

he grew up an Everton fan, he seems like the type where I could see him going to City and sticking it to United, but not to Everton and his family

He takes wage decrease to go back to Everton, or goes to Paris.

I don't think Everton could pay his transfer fee or wages.

I really doubt he leaves Man U, but as had been mentioned, somewhere outside of England seems the only real option.

the best part would be if he does go, which I still think is maybe like 5%

he complained 2 years ago that the club lacked ambition, so in turn they went out and bought one of the best strikers in the world, who has in turn taken Rooney's place....

Quote:
Both Manchester City and Chelsea, who were keen on Rooney in 2010, have less interest now and it is understood the former have ruled out a bid. An approach from PSG has been mooted but their list of transfer targets for next season remains in a state of flux.
...
Neither Real Madrid, Barcelona nor Bayern Munich are expected to take an interest – leaving the list of potential buyers a short one. The introduction of Uefa's FFP rules are also a factor for any club hoping to lure Rooney, especially if he hopes to maintain his salary
...
The United vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, who has masterminded the club's commercial growth, will take over Gill's responsibilities as chief executive in the summer. He told the Guardian last year that United's average net transfer outlay would be £25m, plus any additional money brought in from player sales.

Whether Rooney stays or goes will be Ferguson's decision but financial considerations will surely play a part. If the forward is deemed to be on the fringe of the manager's plans, there would be a reticence to pay £250,000 a week to a squad player. Although Manchester United are in little danger of failing to comply with Uefa's FFP rules, the club's board will be aware that paying Rooney over the final two years of his contract would cost the club more than £13m a year
FFP is the big one, United are one of two clubs (the other being Madrid) that it will never matter too because their commercial revenue is so astronomical. So it might lead to them having to take a big hit to move him, kind of like the way City got rid of Adebayor

Sir Alex Ferguson has given his word that Wayne Rooney will be a Manchester United player next season, meaning the striker should be offered a new deal in the summer as he goes into the final two years of his contract.

Ferguson's decision to drop Rooney from the side to face Real Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League caused uncertainty regarding his long-term future, especially as United do not allow players to enter the final 12 months of contracts as their bargaining position strengthens and their value decreases.

Ferguson said: "He will be here next year, you have my word on that. There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. To suggest we don't talk is nonsense. He understood the reasons completely." Rooney will feature in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea, the manager said.

For the last-16 second leg match, the Scot chose Danny Welbeck in Rooney's usual position behind the lone striker, Robin van Persie. Ryan Giggs was on the right, where Rooney played in the opening game at the Bernabéu. "Tactically we got it right," Ferguson said. "We don't always but we did then. There are no issues with the player and he will be involved on Sunday. I left out Shinji Kagawa after he scored a hat-trick [against Norwich last Saturday]. I thought I would get more stick for that."

Looking at some of the biggest teams in the world, who would want Rooney?

- Real Madrid
- Ronaldo, Higuain, di Maria, Benzema(debatable). He couldnt even slot in behind the striker, he wouldnt make that list either. Not to mention the massive amount of success Englishmen have enjoyed in La Liga.....

- Barcelona
- They simply wont pay and with Messi, Villa, Fabregas and Pedro they dont need to. And it goes without saying that he cant make the list to slot behind the striker either.

- Manchester City
- Possible. They seem set with Dzeko, Aguero and Tevez. He might make second or third on the list?

- Bayern Munich
- Well, Mario Gomez isnt even getting a consistent run of games thanks to Mandzukic, so I'd think Rooney would be third string striker and 3rd choice ACM.

- PSG
- This one seems most likely to me. He is unlikely to replace Ibra, but maybe Lavezzi? And he could probably slot in to the team in the ACM spot. That said, they may have the cash but can they comply with FFP if they pay for Rooney and then pay his wages? Unlikely.

Dunno if it makes any sense but Juve have been looking for a striker the entire campaign. Although we are getting Llorente the Spanish striker next year for free.

Forza Juve!

Manchester United.

Seriously, I don't get all the fuss. He's left out in one CL game because of tactical reasons and the press jump on the opportunity to make headlines. Big deal. He'll go nowhere.

I left Italy out entirely because that league simply cant afford him. It would cost a fortune to acquire him and another fortune to pay him.

I understand that. I left United out for the obvious reasons. That said, he pulled this stunt not too long ago with the 'United dont have ambition' campaign that led to his lofty £300k/wk wage package.

Yeah, trust me - I remember that but what card could he pull this time? The ambition thing would only earn him laughs this time around and the last time I checked, he's still United's top earner (with RvP). He won't get much more money at any club IMO. So why leave? I doubt he'd leave because RvP gets more/ similar love - he's not Ronald

I agree completely. He isnt going anywhere because really, his only options are to go down. He'd have to go to a lesser club for less money.

There is no incentive for him to leave United. He cant claim ambition or money. This is just one of those times where he was left on the bench because United had a one goal lead but were down a player, you dont put an attacker on at that point and once Madrid were up 2-1 it was all over except the crying.

Yeah .... but ..... how do you explain him being absolutely devastated and clearly unhappy during the game?

Quote:
Ferguson said: "Do you want to get to the Wayne Rooney nonsense first? Or do you want to talk sense? The issue you're all going on about is absolute rubbish. I have banned two papers from the press conferences and they won't get back in here until they apologise. There's absolutely no issue between Wayne and I. The suggestion we don't talk to each other on the training ground is nonsense.

"He will be here next year, you have my word on that. There are no issues at all with the player and he will be involved on Sunday.

We don't always get it right but we definitely did on Tuesday

"He understood the reasons for not playing him, it was completely tactical. It was purely tactical and he understood that and i think we were right. We don't always get it right but we got it right.
"Danny Welbeck is the best player we have in terms of operating in a double role. We had to choke Xabi Alonso's ability to control the game, which Danny did, and that took away Alonso's control of the game and his ability to go further forward and be an attacking player.

Good to see Fergie holding the press accountable. Either (a) back it up, (b) admit publicly it was a fabrication or (c) stay away.

Rooney will never work outside of the UK and I seriously doubt he would sign anywhere else, he is an unfortunatly typical english player, a bit dim, badly fed and more than a little parochial. He wouldn't learn any more Spanish or Italian beyond 'lets go back to my place for a shag'

On Football Weekly yesterday one of the editors for the Guardian said nothing is coming from Rooney or United's camps about the sale, meaning it's all hogwash

back in 2010 when the stuff was coming out he said they and other players were getting information from both sides

He is probably capable of learning the phrase "how much" in different languages as it is essential knowledge for procuring the services of grandmother prostitutes.
