This game seems REALLY easy to me now. Dunno what it is but so far I've won 8-3 and 6-3 in my first 2 superstar games on my Be a GM mode. Currently beating Phoenix 4-1 in the 2nd as well. This is completely opposite of my style of play too I usually just play amazing defence and wait for my special teams to steal the show. Also, there's no resistance by the CPU to any type of puck possession or cycle game in the game either.

can someone help me out? This might seem like a weird question, and something obviously 99% of people wouldn't care about, but:

Is the game menus and stuff all the same as the last like what, 5 years or whatever?

If you go to create a team mode, are all the jerseys, logos, etc. the same as the last 5 years or whatever?

Basically just need the answer to these two questions if possible please and thanks.

Yes and yes. Nothing much changed in regards of front end navigation, and creation zone remains the same as before.

Can't answer for the logos, but the menus are still terrible. I might actually write an email to EA this year... It's a usability nightmare. They still have modes scattered throughout the menu.

My experience so far has been outstanding. I'm not getting the issues many are mentioning. Some things aren't great, but the game evolves as people share what they like and what they hate.

Overall I'm loving the improvements made (coming from NHL 11 myself), feels like wrist shots are a lot more valuable than slap shots/one timers have been in the past. One thing I'm not digging so much is the hits, yeah you can still mow guys right over and crush them into the boards... but there's a good chance you're going down as well.

Maybe it was just the way I had it tweaked in NHL 11 but I used to be able to crush a guy into the boards, grab the puck and carry on. Now I crush him into the boards, fall down myself and the puck slides away.

Try to hustle less into the hits.

NHL 11 and 12 got me into some bad habits of feeling like I had to smash through a guy just to knock him down. In the new game, I can knock a guy over from almost a standstill if the situation is right.

Try rubbing guys out more instead of killing them with a neutral zone fuelled charge into the end boards.

I noticed too that everytime I would line someone up and crush them, i would get knocked down as well. Then I realized that I was so used to taking a couple strides and charging someone ala NHL12 that I had to position myself better when making a hit. I think the new skating might also affect that as well. Definitely gonna take some time to get used to, but overall I'm pleased with the changes they made.

In season mode can you set a fantasy draft? Looking at starting a work league.....

Some personal notes:
- Made some tweaks to the game (in particular: slowed game to 10 minutes/period, edited game speed and fatigue to reflect that, decreased hitting ability, decreased goaltender response time and ability to see through traffic, decreased player ability to pass accurately and receive well) and if feels great. I'm still getting used to having to actively avoid players on open ice (players still seem too easy to bump off the puck - I might have to increase player strength to compensate), but it feels pretty realistic. Only concern is that there's a "money goal" at the moment based on my settings: If you win an offensive zone faceoff and have a D shoot the puck from mid slot, the goalie really struggles seeing through the traffic. Of course, this happened to be mast year, so it could just be the sliders I have made.
- Goalies seem to have much better times reacting than players do batting the puck in a rebound opportunity. Not a big deal, but they still make light speed saves even at lower goalie reaction sliders.
- Not sure what to do with the player potential charts now. I used to have a rule of thumb formula for balancing NHL prospects. For example, I'd have to tweak a player like Hall because they had sky high potential and would be near 99 overall in 3 years time. However, the stars and likelihood rating system I have no clue on.
- We really need a new fighting engine.

Honestly, after playing the EASHL I love the game, people who were passing across the crease from NHL 12 can't do it for the life of them, and the computer actually doing something is shocking.

Thanks so much for this post. I wouldn't have picked up the game if I hadn't known about this deal. Also, for anyone that only has one game to trade in, you can pick up the second used game from their list for about $35 (maybe less if your lucky). It gets better though as their magazine CLICK has a coupon (pg. 59) for $10 off any used game. So even just with NHL12 you can trade in for NHL13 for about $25!

Personally, I love the new game. The new skating physics makes the game so much more realistic. I also had a really hard time scoring for the first while as I kept trying to force the cross crease one timer as that was my staple last year. Eventually I started trying new things like actually cycling the puck and waiting for seams to open and am finding it much more enjoyable not being rewarded for doing the exact same play over and over. I still have some minor complaints (ie. stick lift almost always a penalty) but for the most part think they have made some really nice improvements, at least with the gameplay.

In a drop in game I played yesterday our team was actually passing it around in the other teams end, trying to set up for good plays. They would come down and try cross creasers and just try one timers, they would also try to hit everything that moved. We ended up winning 6-0, I got a hat trick, they were all on the PP.

I believe it`s on default. My thing is that I just get 3 or so of those perfectly placed shots a game and then the rest are just me shooting as much as possible.
