I love the giant customizable skip and jump back buttons (transparent overlay on the 'now playing' screen so you can just tap either the left or right side of the screen to jump around). I have mine set to 45 forward, 30 back so I can easily jog through sponsor messages.
I'm seeing downcasts mentioned here and there... might give it a whirl. Did I see that it auto-downloads certain podcasts for you? That's pretty cool.

Yeah the ability to subscribe and automatically download is awesome. Say I am at work and a new Doug loves Movies comes out, it is put into your unplayed list and downloads automatically when I am on wifi. If a new episode comes out while I am on the bus and have only 3g, it puts it in your unplayed but doesn't download it. When you select it from the list, it simply streams it as though it was on your device. It is then marked as played and doesn't bother to download it once on wifi.
Very seamless and I have never had a stream fail, stutter or buffer.

I have been using Podcaster, which is pretty good at automatically downloading, streaming, etc. It lacks a bit of polish, but gets the job done. My only major complaint is that it doesn't let you do any "scrubbing" so you can't easily navigate within a podcast.
The best part is that I can arrange a quick playlist for the drive home. Start with the CBC Hourly News, then maybe a track of the day podcast, then a longer talk one, and then the Onion radio news, etc. It sounds like the alternatives mentioned above can probably do this as well.

Downcast has playlists. I have never used them though.
You can scrub as well as there are -30 -15 +30 and +120 dedicated buttons. There is also a sleep timer which is nice.

Does it allow you to listen to podcasts at 2x speed? Although strange at first, once you get used to it you can burn through podcasts more quickly. The native iPhone player does this and Podcaster doesn't. I already have more content available than I can possibly listen to, so getting through everything twice as fast would be nice.

Not to further hijack the thread with Podcast talk, but has anyone used both Downcast AND PocketCasts? Both seem to be quite good (based on our conversation here and other reviews that I have read), but I wondering how they stack up head-to-head. I need to ensure that my $1.99 is well invested.
Podcaster is OK, but I wouldn't mind a few more bells and whistles.

No push notifications that I can see in Downcast, which makes it a non-starter for me. It's so nice with iOS5 and PocketCasts to look at my notifications and see what new content is ready to stream.

With downcast you just subscribe and your podcasts automatically download every week. At least as far as I can tell.

most annoying issue i have had since updating:
I can have 57% battery and the phone turns off as if its dead. I can only turn it back on if I plug it in (computer, wall, car etc). Then it turns on and shows 57% battery life and will go to 100% in under 30 min which seems un realistic.
It dies at least 3/4 times a day. Called support but I am a few months out of warranty

Take it right to an Apple store and see what they can do for you.

My phone is pissing me off so much lately. Half my apps simply don't open. They start to open, then it just doesn't open. WTF? Ever since I put that new update on my phone, it's been acting up.

Could it just be that those apps aren't compatible with iOS 5 yet? Have you tried a hard reset by holding the home and sleep buttons down for up to a minute?

Done that a few times. Currently, my Flames app has stopped working, as well as facebook, and TD. They just start to open, then it goes right back to the home screen. It's making me feel a bit smashy, especially the TD app.

I'd try a restore from backup and failing that I would restore and wipe clean, re-DL all the apps.
You'd probably want to backup your contacts and stuff first though.

How do you get purchased apps to stay on your phone? Damn thing is telling me if I restore, I'm gonna lose them.

If you right click on your ipod in the left hand side of the Itunes menu there is a button that says "transfer purchases".
