2 years/$6.5M.
Probably doesn’t need to be that high, but rather overpay our own guys to get to the cap floor than more mercs.

One would be hard pressed to find a team, specifically a division winner, that has been dismantled as quickly as the 2022 Flames.
Honestly, the Flamescshould just wish Kylington well and let him go. Really, they are the ones who look good here. That’s not to imply Kylintong looks bad. It is what it is and best the Flames move on and continue what is an obvious rebuild.
I also have to think this pushes the Flames even closer an Andersson trade, which a good portion of fans here want anyway.

Total trash move from Kylington in my eyes. Hard to not feel played a bit as an organization. Guy couldn’t even sign a 1 year and build some value and then have us move him? Or something?
Such a lame move after how we handled him.

They are cutting close to the bone on D until the prospects are ready. If they ship those vets they’ll need to bring in others to fill the gap. Might as well hold on to the ones you know

Yeah, with Kylington in particular, figuring out what market value is really hard given the circumstances. I can see why negotiating one would be difficult.
Letting the market decide really might be the best way to sort it out. If he circles back to the Flames and it meets what the Flames can do, then great. If not, best of luck to him.

I'm 100% fine with Kylington moving on. He's an average-size, non-physical, puck-moving defenseman and we have quite a few that profile like him in our system already.
Also fine with his decision despite his history. He owes nothing to the Flames. We treated him well because we are a high-class organization and we support all our players well, not because we want something from him afterwards. That feels like treating a girl well with the expectation of sex afterwards. It's sleazy.

I'll be shocked if any GM gives him more than a one year deal.

That’s an odd comparison. Treating your employees well and hope they stay with you is not the same as expecting sexual favors
That said the employees are free to go whenever they want. Nobody is holding anybody hostage

I'm pretty ok one way or another whatever happens to the Kylington situation. Objectively speaking, he's an average size ok 4-5 dman that can skate really well, but gets muscled off pucks easily and lacks a bit of spacial awareness, resulting in getting exposed sometimes when defending or getting hit.
If he's back, great, if not, he's completely replaceable imo.

It's interesting to see some of the same people who were very accepting of Kylington taking a mental health leave, are ready to crap on him if he considers a change of scenery and fresh start.
Not a good for some people on here. Players are free to do what they want, and the Flames acted as any organization should have given the situation.

I really like Kylington as a player and was a feel good story when he returned. Hard not to be disappointed with his decision to test free agency (even though that is well within his right). Like others have said, he doesn't owe the Flames any loyalty but the optics don't look great considering what the organization did for him. Hopefully they can make something work and this is his agents negotiation tactic.

If he walks, it’s totally understandable. NHL players have a very short shelf life to make their money and win it all, and the Flames are clearly poised to offer neither for the foreseeable future.
My hope is that the Flames opt to generate more draft capital with their excessive cap space by taking on other teams’ poison pills and signing mercenaries to flip, rather than sign players who at best will move the needle in the wrong direction.

Hope you aren't talking about me, because honestly, I'm totally ok with him leaving if that's what he chooses, and I wish him the best. From just a pure hockey point of view, he's pretty replaceable imo. I'll always be proud of how the org treated him through his ordeal, but at the same time, I don't think he owes Flames anything if he feels he can get a better deal in the market than what the the Flames offered him.
