Since that at bat, Rodriguez has retired 11 of 12 batters.
At the time, he had thrown 60 odd pitches, with one out in the 3rd. Runners on 1st and 2nd. The Red Sox had activity in the pen. The Sox had just committed a fielding error.
If he puts that ball in play, they could have blown the game open and gotten deep into the Sox' bullpen.
Instead, they let Rodriguez off the hook and now it's 3-1 in the 7th.
Same story, game after game after game.
I'm sorry, but simply saying they have missed a ton of hit-able pitches does not do justice to the fact that their strike outs are up 20% this year.

Edit: and now the Sox are 1st and 3rd with no outs and Happ is the first pitcher out of the game.
