So Pence is flying into New Jersey's Teterboro airport to be in Manhattan for tomorrow. I mean this has to end with Christie pulling some strings to get him stuck in Jersey right? Please?

It's like an assassination prevention strategy. "Oh you think I'm terrible? You want to shoot me? Well, look who'll be president if you do!" "... Yeah, no, actually, we're good."

The three main candidates are
Tom Vilsack
Tom Perez
Tim Kaine
Of those three, Perez would make the most sense due to diversity. Want to hammer the Republicans even more in the Latino community, become the first party to have a Hispanic on the ticket.

Anyone else find it a bit insulting to certain demographics that we automatically assume they'll vote for someone from the same demographic regardless of what the candidate espouses politically?

Yes, it is, but some people do do that and when you're talking about margins where 1 or 2 % can make all the difference in the world, something as innocuous as that is something that goes into the calculations.
That's why Tim Kaine is on the list because he'd likely help deliver Virginia, although according to the polls, that's not looking like it will be a problem either way.

I suppose but didn't Rubio do poorly even among Latinos in Florida for instance? It's not exactly a foregone conclusion.

The Democrats especially don't need to race or gender pander since they own those demographics to begin with and Republicans seem to go out of their way to alienate them. Pick the best candidate, ideally someone young who can take over in 4 or 8 years.

It's not a foregone conclusion, but when you have one candidate who wants to deport 11 million of your compadres and one candidate who has a Latino next in line for the throne, it makes the decision rather simple.

Even as awful as the other options are, Pence was my worst case scenario. He hits a lot of my major deciding points hard, in the wrong way (women's heathcare/rights, LGBT rights, etc).
Given how absolutely 1950s-esque the official GOP platform is looking, however, he fits right in.

And now Gingrich is saying they should test every person with a Muslim background to see if they believe in Sharia law and if they do deport them.

Well he's gotta make his last ditch attempt to usurp Pence for VP.

I think Trump's master plan is to make America white again by deporting every minority group one by one. First it was the illegal Mexicans, now it's any Muslim that they deem so. I'm sure that they will be harping on the Blacks and gays next. Only a matter of time.

I've said before in this thread that Perez is a great choice, not simply because of the Latino heritage but because he pulls together a lot of the diverse groups that make up the traditional Democrat coalition. He's got a civil rights background and can speak to his investigations into police violence and discrimination. He's got broad union support. He's popular with the Warren wing. He's not going to bring many non-traditional democrats to the party, but he could be a good unifying move. He's got the 'in touch with the common American' quality that Clinton lacks.
