LOL...playoffs are on and it seems like they are an afterthought when CFB is going. Texas up 1-0 on TB in the 4th...this series seems like a foregone conclusion IMO.
Anyhoo, alltime great Tony Gwynn diagnosed with cancer and he suspects it was from chewing tobacco.
Quote:
"They say this is a slow-moving but aggressive form of cancer," Gwynn told the Union-Tribune from his Poway home. "I'm going to be aggressive and not slow-moving in treating this."
Gwynn said he thought the cancer was most likely related to his use of chewing tobacco throughout his career.
"I haven't discussed that with the doctors yet, but I'm thinking it's related to dipping," said Gwynn, who said he had failed to drop the habit despite the previous mouth procedures.

I can't believe how many ball players still chew with all we know about the cancer causing effects of that stuff.

I know it's a habit, but it doesn't seem to have slowed down at all. I could be wrong. I just watched Garza jam the biggest God damn wad in his mouth I've ever seen.

Doesn't look like any of the baseball games are on Sportsnet West today because of NFL.
Unless I'm missing something
Tampa-Texas at 11am
SF-Atlanta at 2:30pm
Philly-Cincinatti at 6pm

Hinske with a clutch 2 run HR in the bottom of the 8th to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Giants take the lead on a brutal error by the Braves second baseman, Conrad. 3-2 Giants top of 9.
EDIT: It was Conrad's 3rd error of the game according to TBS.

Conrad's the worst defensive player I've ever seen in a playoff.
Yes I know he's a reserve usually but those were easy plays he's booted.
Sounds weird but the Braves would have been better off losing 1-0.
----
And now you know why teams make defensive subs late in games.. Cox is old though so I kind of give him a pass.

Brooks Conrad just played the worst game I've ever seen from a major league baseball player. By far.
0-3 with a K; THREE errors, including the one that resulted in the winning run scoring.

He's been bad all series. He made 3 errors in the season ending Braves-Phillies series also which nearly cost the Braves a playoff spot.
EDIT: You are right! It is the worst

Conrad's total defensive WPA in this game comes in at a staggering -.635. That number, combined with his -.116 batting total, comes out to a total WPA of -.751. Brooks Conrad cost the Braves 75% of a postseason victory, one which would have put them one victory away from the next round of the playoffs. Conrad's play tonight, particularly if the Braves don't come back to win this series, will go down as one of the worst playoff performances of all time.

Giants are pretty feisty. They get alot of ground-ball singles through holes, infield singles, and hustle to cause errors.
The Braves had a terrible offense and swung at alot of pitches.
They had Bumgarner on the ropes a few times but couldn't convert, swinging at bad pitches.
They had a graphic on the telecast.. the Braves are no 0-8 in elimination games AT HOME. Time to burn that field down I think!
Saturday night it'll be Game 1 of the NLCS.
Lincecum against Halliday!
