Both Rasmus and Kadri speak pretty openly, I know Weegar is very close with him and super supportive.

I’d guess maybe Backlund? He’s the captain and can be really cliche in his interviews….
I’m going to ask about this because I trust Pat but it sounds crazy to me guys would get upset about it.
Feels like it would be management only that would care

Any player on the Flames who has a problem with Parekh can just pack up and go play somewhere else. And anyone here who has a problem with Parekh should get a life. I can’t believe the stuff people get worked up over.

Ya I can't see 'the boys' being too upset. Probably the vets will sit him down with a beer about saying things that can be taken as shots at your teammates. 19 year old kid. Can't see anyone getting too wound up over it. (Could have been Dustin too.)

He is 19. My billets are 18 and 19 and incredibly immature.

I'm not a Huska fan at all, but I like the way he is handling Parekh and I think the examples of our other dmen developing properly supports this.

If you want a Bouchard you bring Parekh in and let him collect points on the powerplay. If you want a Makar you bring him along slowly and force him to learn how to play at both ends in the NHL.

The thing is, a lot of hockey players come across like robots because they simply aren't good at public speaking. They haven't been trained for it, they don't have an aptitude for it, and when they come into the league, they aren't experienced enough to have picked it up naturally. And I think a lot of the PR direction that players get about what to say in interviews is aimed at those guys – the lowest common denominator.

Parekh has an aptitude for talking to the media. His PR training should be on the level of, ‘Don't say X, Y, and Z, because those things could actually get us into trouble.’ He certainly doesn't need to be coached on the correct number of y'knows to put in a sentence.

Very few things in life are ‘one size fits all’, and even fewer in teaching or coaching.

Zayne’s right. He has a brand and as long as he’s respectful of his team, he should be able to say what he wants.

Flames want everything to be boring grey concrete just like their ugly building?
Good thing Gio isn't our captain right now.

No he didn't. He said he wasn't going to sign an extension but that he would play out his contract. It necessitated a trade to make sure we didn't lose him for nothing, but he never actually asked to be traded.

Thought Parekh looked awesome in the World Juniors. The offence really flowed through him. It was interesting how dependent team Canada was on Parekh for any kind of skilled plays or puck movement. So many of the other d men seemed to just have the “flip the puck to center” move as their best play. Felt like team Canada didn’t get hemmed in their own zone as often when he was on the ice but that may have been due to favourable starts in the offensive zone.

Ultimately, it will be important to find the right defence partner for Parekh - the “right” player may change as he develops. My first instinct is that he will need a defence-first defencemen to compensate for his play style. And that’s probably true for the most part but I think it’s important for that the player to also be steady under pressure and make plays with the puck - not just an “off the glass and out” defenceman. Parekh creates space for his linemates out there and finds passing lanes that most players don’t. I saw a few times in this tournament and at the NHL level where Parekh made a play to his defence partner and Parekh was then moving to a position to get the puck back while moving to lane of open ice to create a breakout or a scoring chance in the offensive zone but his defence partner did not read that play - they would instead rim the puck along the boards and the play would die… sometimes leading to Parekh being out of position with the puck going the wrong way.

It will be a part of Parekh’s development to learn to pick his spots and know when he should anticipate those plays from his defence partner but I also think it would be great to have a defence partner that can make that read and complement Parekh to continue a play that he is setting up. It’s too bad Andersson is a right hand shot… otherwise I think he would be the perfect fit for Parekh as a defence partner. Andersson is a great mix of defence and offence on the back end and he’s a steadying influence. While I like Weegar - his reads on plays are often too risky and he is not as solid defensively. Bahl is looking more and more confident to make plays so he is likely the best fit for Parekh.

Hopefully Parekh takes whatever time is necessary to get back to 100% healthy. There’s no reason to rush him back at all.

I really enjoyed watching him play this tournament and he has great potential for the Flames. I don’t know what is going on with the injury but if it is related to his injury from the summer or earlier, fixing that is priority one.

Once that is cleared up, I’m in the camp of sending him back to Junior and then next year he can start in the A. There is no shortage of things he can work on and he just doesn’t seem physically ready for the NHL just yet.

It’s not related to the injury from the summer. But may or may not be related to the injury from November.

Will Zayne suit up for Bronze just to try and beat that Canadian defenseman record? Or will they go precautionary

Saw an article about Zayne's interview controversy. Not sure if just sensationalized fluff, but if any Flames players or personnel actually have an issue with a pretty harmless comment about the bland, vanilla way in which players are told to handle the media then I don't know what to say.

He's not wrong (about NHLers in general).

I feel like the Flames have a few characters (Andersson, Lomberg, even Cooley) who aren't afraid to show their personality though... so I don't see why that should rock any boats here.

Expecting teenagers to be no nonsense, stone-faced interviews is a silly expectation to begin with.

And any one that gives him grief for it should just take their services elsewhere, because that isn't the kind of culture I want my favorite team to have. This kid should be celebrated, not muzzled.

Definitely Parekh should be celebrated. As should Cooley, who is an absolute breath of fresh air, because he’s just so happy to have finally established himself in the NHL and he shows it in every interview. Pro sports is a branch of show business, after all, and players with personality make for a better show.

There are more than enough Hingle McCringleberrys in the business. That was a character in several Key & Peele skits, who was so nearly brain-dead he could only speak in sports cliches no matter what the subject.

‘So, Hingle, how does it feel to be a new father?’

‘Uh… give it 110 percent… one play at a time… execute.’
