Zayne's Flames teammates have been pretty supportive of him throughout the tourney, I'm hoping this is a nothingburger

45:16 the full quote starts. It's much more than a quick quote and worth a listen, not a big deal as the snippet would make it.

This is a Canada/hockey market thing
So stupid, nothing to it
Even Pat is being taken out of context

For some reason Steinberg gets a pass on these things.
As someone else said, stop over analyzing everything. Making everything a fight doesn't help anything.

I can't imagine Flames players would care about that comment. Probably funny to them.
Some PR person might be a bit uptight but that would be about it

How does this get to the mouthpiece media? How about: "We're thrilled Zayne is having so much success and hope he can take home the gold for Canada"
Add it to the long list of completely incompetent and embarrassing PR moves the Flames have made this season.
End of the day, sure it's probably a nothing burger but holy they make it hard on themselves.

Sounds like it was a thought floated by a player - the organization probably doesn't have total control that way.

Ooof fair but even that is such a wild culture move.
A player taking the time to float that to the media should probably focus on getting the team out of 29th instead of swiping at the future of your franchise, such loser behaviour.

Pat said very clearly, "I don't think it's going to be a situation where he's alienated by his teammates, in fact, I know it's not going to be that situation." Pat was also laughing while talking about it, which to me tells me the players and staff he's talked to about it likely feel the same way.

People are quick to point the finger at other players and management but it goes for fans, too. Some of the comments here we totally silly and dumb overreactions, and who does anyone think sports media is designed to serve?
Guarantee if fans weren’t getting on Parekh for this stuff nobody else would care. Same thing happened with Tkachuk, people here were so weird about him.

that robot comment is so true too. Saw Emil Hemming and Michael Hage being interviewed during the coverage of the WJC semifinals game and they both had the "you know"s down to a tee. From a young age, hockey players are drilled to be boring in interviews, and I think it's refreshing to see someone with a bit of personality.

That to me is even the bigger issue. A 19 year old without a lot of pro media etiquette saying something a little abrasive is less of an issue than whatever veteran player goes and says something like that to a media personality. They have to know by now whatever they say is going to make it into a podcast or social media post because media personalities can't help themselves.
And yes, Steinberg did downplay it. He could have also skipped the first part and just downplayed it.
Also, this isn't just a Flames or Calgary thing. Even in junior and his draft year, one of the criticisms of Parekh was saying things that rubbed people the wrong way. He'll figure it out.

I’d be curious to know who took offense to it.
Both Rasmus and Kadri speak pretty openly, I know Weegar is very close with him and super supportive.
I’d guess maybe Backlund? He’s the captain and can be really cliche in his interviews….
I’m going to ask about this because I trust Pat but it sounds crazy to me guys would get upset about it.

Well if the Flames know anything it is PR and comms. I am sure they will get that guy who had the meltdown when Neshi was elected and sort out Zayne right away.

It would be pretty funny if they all wore cheesy robot outfits to his first practice back.

I actually assumed the other comment might have bothered the team more.
Where he said he wishes he could stay with Team Canada all year, and is sad that it is coming to an end soon. And that he really needed this refresher. Words that don't bother me, but I can see if some people take them a certain way.
