I don't know if it's been asked yet, I though NJ wanted to include Allen in any trade?

I feel like if the Flames gave up Markstrom and in return got nothing, this would be at least a C-minus, since this is the move the Flames needed to do. Opens up the net for Wolf and improves next year's draft pick (hopefully)

But man the Devils had other options, even if both parties' desire was to connect on a trade.
There is always the risk that the the Devils go out and make a trade for Gibson or Saros and then the Flames are without a dance partner. That would have been the greatest failure.
I think the Flames got above fair value in a bad situation without risking a complete loss on the return.

If it was a second then I could have understood the anger.
But getting a 1st back for a goalie is tough sledding at any point in time.
Media was saying the only way the Flames could maybe get 10th OV is if they added a pick and retained 50%...instead now they get a 1st, didn't have to retain 50%, and didn't add a pick...and it's a poor grade.
It just makes no sense logically when people assess these trades.
10th OV for 50% Markstrom and 41 OV would have been seen as a home run...but somehow a 1st, Bahl for Markstrom with 33% retention is a failure.

Sorry I didn’t wade through the whole thread. Is it an unprotected 2026 1st if next year pick is top 10?

Another thing is Conroys continued emphasis and belief in the flames pro scouting, Conroy could legitimately value Bahl more than Holtz and no one would dare give this trade anything below an A if it was 2025 pick and Holtz, these pundits just want a sexy name and Bahl isn’t that.

It's a question, I thought that every trade needs to have a winner and a loser around these parts.

That was never discussed for Markstrom.
People thought that maybe if you had Markstrom and Hanifin with full retention you could get Mercer, 1st, and another piece.

I feel like part of this trade is giving an opportunity for Wolf, so Flames probably didn't want Allen or like it becomes more complex with Allen and Vladar switching sides?
I'd expect that the Flames might add an AHL goalie with NHL experience as a UFA?

Given that the Flames have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a rebuild, I can't help but smile at the work Conroy has done over the last year. Picked up three additional 1sts, several additional picks, some decent prospects and young players, struck gold with Sharangovich and so on and so forth.
Has every trade been a home-run? Probably not. Have some trades felt a bit underwhelming at first? Maybe, yeah. But the general direction is the right one and I feel Conroy has set us up well for what's coming. Will probably be a lottery team for the next couple of seasons, but that's what is needed. This franchise has never picked in the top 3 ... if there's one franchise that doesn't have to feel bad for bottoming out for once, it's the Flames.

I don't know why Jersey would trade Allen. There was a condition on that trade that if he plays 40 games and the team he's on makes the playoffs, the pick becomes a 3rd rounder.
You'd want to manage that yourself, I would imagine.

Why would you think that? He was really really good at 5v5 in his short time here. Better than Weegar even both at suppressing shots and generating chances for.
Even if he gets worse, he would still be quite good.
This even showed in his limited time in Vegas. There is a reason he was targeted in the trade.
Whoever is running the Flames pro scouting is doing a really solid job.

Neither Zadorov nor Regher (who some have mentioned) were very good fighters. They used their size differently.

Would have preferred an unprotected pick or at worst just lottery protected. But like Kevin Bahl. He's huge, uses his size well and still a lot of room to improve at 23.
