Did anyone listen to the Eric Francis show today? Anyone remember Eric saying this?
https://twitter.com/user/status/1653122320352043009

Eric Francis said that he knows that the #Flames# were trying to sign a bunch of college free agents but they didn't want to come to Calgary because of Sutter and him not playing the younger players.

You think Murray Edwards is eating 8 million to pay someone not to coach because of Huberdeau and Kadri.

It's really not a reach. And I'm not saying that's what happened. We don't know what happened or how many players or to what extent. Im saying that if the group of players that led to Sutter's demise was small, Maloney would give you the same response than if it was a large group.
The only players we know that made their issues with Sutter public are Kadri and Huby. And based on their contract values and term remaining, that's probably enough to get the coach fired. You're not picking a coach with $8m of contract over two players with $140m.
Maybe there's more than two players, but it's all just been speculation based on garbage day interviews. Maybe there was also Backlund and Lindholm and others. But we haven't heard them or their agents say anything publicly.

As Sutter was losing the room and his job in LA, Kopitar had 52 points, then when Sutter left, jumped up to 92
And Sutter played those guys in their proper position
No question he stifles his stars’ offense, asking them to sacrifice personal stats for the team
It’s kind of actually been his thing
(with the exception of two guys in contract years, 13 and 19, who said ‘#### this’ and had their line play a different game, which was so effective he really couldn’t do much different)

You sound like an Oilers fan. Personal stats are your preferred method of success? You just pointed out the two players that actually had the most team success under Sutter, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove? I wonder why Sutter was Iginla’s favourite coach then? Or how Kopitar stumbled his way into two cups?
Personally, I actually feel it’s time to move on from Sutter. He gave the veterans too much leash this year, when to me it’s pretty clear there are young guys ready to take over.
However, the narratives going around are getting crazy and tiresome. Is Sutter still a smart hockey guy? Yes. Do I concede it’s probably time for him to move on? You bet.

I am glad that he is gone.
However, I was so excited when he came back. "Unfinished business" - the fans were so hyped.
Been a horrible 10-12 months for Flames fans. Hockey is supposed to be entertainment.

Geez, this guy drops the gloves and goes straight below the belt
It was a direct response to somebody surprised that Huberdeau’s stats went down under Sutter, friend

No, the other poster was right. I say this as a fan of Huberdeau. He simply wasn’t good enough. I’m glad he wasn’t making 10.5 this year because the lynch mob would’ve been out even more and rightfully so. Sutter definitely gets the blame for Huberdeau’s usage and line mates. But I can only think of two games this year where Huberdeau looked like a star. One against the Rangers, the other against Nashville. If he was able to look like a star for two games, surely he could’ve mustered it up for a lot more?
My point is, it’s not just about the stats. Iginla was still a dominant force under Sutter, despite less point production.

Crickets.
No matter, Francis (and Valji) sees this now as open season to use or blame anything within the organization or perceived about the organization on Sutter as an excuse, and, more importantly, his/their chance to try and get a gig somewhere else because he guessed midseason and things came somewhat true, so he's a savant insider now....so the piling on will commence without Sutter around.
Next up, the new building wasn't going to be built becuase of Sutter.

I am glad for the organizational clean slate. Treliving and Sutter had the organization close in 2022 but lost their 2 key franchise players. Brad reacted as best he could but the moves made to try and mitigate the loss of Gaudreau and Tkachuk cost them dearly. A 1st round pick to sign Kadri to a monster deal, 8 year commitments to Huberdeau and Weegar. Those moves failed because Sutter failed with this roster.
The biggest issue I have was his inability to play the kids. I am excited for a younger team next year.

Why did we lock up Sutter so early, what was the rush, where else was he going to go? Was Murray just looking to blow 8M?

Given the incredible volume of twaddle that he spews on almost every subject....yes.
Verbal diarrhea at its worst.

Did Sutter even want to come back and coach the team? He's probably happy he gets his 8 million and gets to hang out on the ranch

This team is very reactive.
