This is a great moment for the city of Calgary and Flames fans, I get you want to rain on the parade here but we would really appreciate that if you can't enjoy it you just shut your pie hole. Also if they left someone else would, in fact, be here shortly thereafter to fill the void and would then payd their own money. I've no doubt. Or more likely the team would never leave and someone willing to pay for a new arena would simply buy it.

Yup, I would have loved to see the city call CSEC's bluff. Arizona gave them leverage. This is about how I expected it to play out though

Of course you will. I simply said if you don't want your taxes to pay for the arena you can always move. You are going to beat that victim drum all day long on here though. Poor you. Can't be happy the fate of the team the whole board is built around is now secure because it might personally cost you an extra dime. You're a real gem of a person.

Again, that self entitled attitude like it is a personal affront on YOU that this deal is getting done. Can't be happy for the fans of the team, or the jobs this will create for others, it's all about you. Like I said, gem of a person.

The more I look at this, the more it seems like a really bad deal. Shades of being sold a monorail

What a terrible deal. Murray has to pay 40 million bucks up front and the taxpayer pays the other 900 million.

I've been there actually...and agree. However they chose that location because of being near rail. It was part of a revitalization I can concede that. The hotels in the area provide foot traffic as well. Also baseball plays 81+ home dates in a 7 month window and the stadium is bigger.
The best stadium areas integrate into the community instead of standing as a monolith.

What jobs will this create? I haven't seen point towards taxes going up as a reason to dislike the deal. It is more using public funds to directly increase the value of an asset owned by billionaires at the expense of the taxpayer. It looks even worse after Murray forced his way out of the last deal.
Any one who hates the Central Library should really hate this.

CSEC also:
1) gets to use city's borrowing capacity and borrowing rate for the owner's benefit rather than use the owner's money or borrowing capacity
2) gets all the non-flames venue revenue associated with the arena
3) gets all the upside on the facility's revenue generation over the next 35-years as the city grows
4) gets land options on land around arena
5) gets infrastructure upgrades on all that land options paid for by the city and province
6) gets use of the "community arena" for further revenue opportunities
It's actually embarassing

IMO (2) and (3) is implied. (4) is assumed based on previous deal
