The word watch is literally right next to signing.
I figure there will be a whole new thread when its done.

I check from phone/tablet all day and it stops at "signing..."
Edit: And yes, signing threads seem to be prefixed with [Signing].

We all hear how much of a hard worker Treliving is so should anyone be surprised he would roll up his sleeves and arm wrestle with an agent over bonuses?

So that's how Brad got Brodie's deal. It all makes sense now.
When Brad's in the team gym, it's all curls and shoulders. Keep those negotiation tactics in game shape.

Oh great, now I have images of Brad Treliving rolling his four fingers on top of his thumb yelling, "MUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR, SIGN!!!"

Hmmm....I dont know, maybe I'm out of the loop re: Jankowski but why wouldnt we offer him the bonuses?
We'd be ecstatic if he hit them. Arent rookie bonuses something ridiculous like the Art Ross/Hart/Calder/Conn Smythe wins and playoff wins and things like that?
I thought there were specific bonuses for rookies? Not like 'you get an extra million if you play 50 games' or anything easy like that.

It's pretty old, but one of the first google hits. Here's the part that would apply;
Quote:
1: Individual "A" Bonuses - These are broken into categories like ice time, goals, and plus/minus. Each category has a minimum requirement a team can bonus for (10 goals, for example) and each category may not create more than $215,00 worth of bonuses (you can bonus $100K at 10 goals and then $115K at 15 goals if you want). Total "A" Bonuses can't exceed $850,000.
2: Individual "B" Bonuses - This is kind of a two-part bonus system based on performance comparative to the rest of the league. First off, the league itself will pay the player a bonus outside of his Club-paid salary if he does things like earns a place in the top five for postseason awards like the Hart, Selke, or Vezina; or if he places top ten in the league in offensive/goaltending categories. On top of the league bonuses, the club can pay bonuses of up to $2M to the player for making these awards.
|
So they are probably negotiating details around the "A" type bonuses, i.e. if he received a bonus at 10 goals or 15 goals or 20 goals.

Too many performance bonuses on the roster at once can handcuff you.
The NHL has a performance bonus cushion of 7.5%. This means teams can exceed the cap including performance bonuses only by 7.5% of the salary cap. Potential performance bonuses count until they are un-achievable.
It was a major reason why the Oilers had to trade Smid. Too many performance bonuses for their wonder kids handcuffed them from doing any roster changes until they dumped Smid.

The issue in Jankowski’s case is bonuses. The club and the agent (Wade Arnott) are arm-wrestling over them.

Oh, I get it now, he wants to max out his 'A' bonuses on sweetheart BS like ice-time or 3 goals scored to get the $850k.
It isnt the money being negotiated its the achievements.

Yes but it maxes out at 10% of the base salary. Almost everyone gets the 10%.
