really can't wait to finally see Jankowski in action, I hope it gets done soon.
Still think Alex Killorn is the best comparison in terms of development and progression so far. Both have mid September birthdays and were pretty much the youngest players in their draft years, both were drafted out of high school/lower profile programs, both were lanky kids who needed to bulk up at college (Killorn was listed at 6'1 and 160 when drafted). Killorn had 109 points in 130 NCAA games, Jankowski had 110 in 148. The only difference is that Jankowski immediately went to Providence after the draft, while Killorn spent another year at high school. Killorn has since developed into a solid 2nd/3rd line player in the NHL ... if Jankowski can mirror that, I'll be extremely happy.

News UpdateThe status of Calgary’s Mark Jankowski is different because the Providence College forward was a first-rounder. If no deal is reached, the Flames get a compensatory pick, which would be 51st overall. (The formula is simple: 30 spots later than where a player was originally selected.) The issue in Jankowski’s case is bonuses. The club and the agent (Wade Arnott) are arm-wrestling over them.

Bonuses are tied to cap hit right? Hence why Shultz's ELC was a 3 million cap hit?

That sounds positive I think. How many of the bonuses are really negotiable anyway? I thought most of them were already set on entry level contracts.

This has never made sense to me in terms of NCAA signings. Give them max, and if they don't hit the bonuses, then they don't get paid. Also with a year burned on ELC, it shouldn't matter all that much.

While the CBA caps how much an ELC can earn with Schedule A and Schedule B bonuses, which bonuses and how much for each bonus is still negotiable.

If the only issue is bonuses, then I can't see how a deal doesn't get done.
if Jankowski intended to go to free agency, then I doubt the talks would have gotten to the point of haggling about bonuses.

The only reason I can see Treliving concerned about the bonuses is a belief that Jankowski will be on the roster next season. I say that because for Treliving, he seems to be concerned with the cap and if Jankowski is spending the year in the AHL I really can't see it mattering.

In case anyone is wondering, Wade Arnott works for Newport Sports Management which also represents Sean Monahan.

I would guess the only real negotiation would be the player wanting the minimum requirements for the schedule A bonuses while the team would be wanting to up those a bit?

If the bonuses are met can they not roll over to the next year when we have a ton of cap space coming up?
Or is that only for 35+ contract like Iggy in Boston?

This thread needs a title modification. Every time I log in I see "Jankowski/Gilmour signing..." and think "It's done!" :|
