Well they are going to announce something
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/m...otes-deal.html
Not holding my breath. When Bettman gives Jamison the keys, I will believe it.
But it cant hurt to be a little positive. Just hope it doesn't distract the team.

Is anyone else concerned that Jamison is still an owner, albeit minority owner, in the Sharks? Isn't that a conflict of interest?

Hopefully this will cause it to stop being an issue. Four years of this crap, I'm sick of hearing about it. Move or stay and shut up, either one, I don't care.

As long as he sells off his share of the Sharks, it shouldn't be an issue at all.
When the Gund brothers were granted the expansion franchise in San Jose, they had to sell off the North Stars, and Norm Green (who was one of the Flames owners at the time) was part of the committee tasked with finding a suitable owner in Minnesota. After reviewing all the information, he decided to sell his share of the Flames and buy the team himself.
Other owners over the years have gone from owning all or part of one team to owning all or part of another (Craig Leipold, who now owns the Wild, used to own the Predators).

Yes, if he sells his shares It wouldn't be any issue anymore. I guess I'm a little surprised the article didn't mention it though.

Best thing that ever happened to the flames was Green leaving.

What I want to know is if Glendale pays this group $17M per year, does the CoG get money in lease payments from the Coyotes and if so how much? They have to be getting more than $17M or it doesn't pay for them to want to keep the team.

NHL to announce sale of Phoenix Coyotes
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hocke...ent/54801608/1
"USA TODAY Sports has confirmed that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will be in Arizona Monday afternoon to announce that the Phoenix Coyotes have tentatively been sold after two seasons of league ownership."

Or it would cost more than $17M to operate the arena on their own, in which case this arrangement saves them money.

Congrats Coyotes fans. Hopefully the playoff run and new ownership provides the boost the franchise needs.

I've always hoped that we could follow the SJ model as a team in an untraditional market that can succeed.
And it looks like we've got the braintrust behind ALL of it in SJ.
This wait may have been very much worth it. I won't be dancing until I see it on paper signed sealed and delivered but this is a huge step.

on the bright side this means cheap flights to Phoenix in the fall to see a Jets game and do some Arizona shopping and relaxing.

I've found some information.
Quote:
At a council workshop last week, Deputy City Manager Jim Colson said a city-commissioned analysis by TL Hocking & Associates projected Glendale could expect to bring in an average of $15.7 million annually over a 20-year lease with Jamison and $6.5 million without the Coyotes.
|
If that's the case, than they are losing 1.3M per year with the Coyotes and would earn $6.5 without. This still doesn't take into account their mortgage payments for the arena or the loss in sales taxes for the area.

To me, at the end of the day... if the fans don't show up consistently to support the team, this sale won't matter. I hope Jamison has a few marketing tricks up his sleeve. That fanbase in the Phoenix / Glendale area is a volatile one.

Right, as well as a number of other revenue streams (and costs). We've got a very partial picture of the whole thing, so it's tough to really judge, and the CoG doesn't appear to be run by the most astute people in the world so taking their word for it is tough too.
