The hidden advantage we have too is we're mostly white people. One thing for US American soldiers to go out and kill brown people, it's the reason 90% of them joined after all. But killing white people? I think they will struggle mightily to pull the trigger.
Have you been to any publicly funded school recently? I don't think we are mostly white anymore. At least not in the under 25 demographic.
If there is a US military invasion of Canada, when the inevitable guerilla resistance movement emerges, we should co-opt the Red Dawn fantasy from so many American right-wingers and call the freedom fighters "Wolverines". They will be named, of course, in honour of Canada's most well-known superhero.
Since any Canadian outside of Que or Nfld can effortlessly pass as American (unlike Iraqis, Afghans, or the Vietnamese), it should be a relatively simple thing to pursue the war on American soil as a fifth column.
We’ll see how cozy the GOP politicians are when their homes are being individually burnt down.
It’ll be the first time since 1812 a foreign power fought on the continental US.
Which we also won btw.

I can't believe I've actually been having these thoughts, but this is the reality we live in now: I've recently been thinking how anti-Trump Americans (and there are millions of them) would respond to a military invasion of a peaceful NATO ally. Would that be the metaphorical "bridge too far" that causes them to take up arms against their own tyrannical government, or would they just passively shrug their shoulders and at most attend a protest rally or write an ineffectual letter to their congressperson?
The question is, do you care more about feeling right, or that these people actually end up seeing the light? Because only one of those things helps you or anyone else.
They already admit that you were right and they were dumb by even approaching the subject. Like if you have a friend who's got a mental health problem but won't admit it. For years you've been telling them they need therapy and they brush it off, all the while they are destructive to themselves and the people around them. If that person ever comes to a trusted person and says "I think I need help" the move is not to go off about hw you've been saying that for years and point to all the destruction they've caused. It's to be empathetic and welcome them back to the world.
As much as it would be convenient to refer to Trump voters as mentally ill...
A more appropriate analogy would be someone coming to you for help getting out of a cult. Even then, people in your run of the mill cults are only harming a very small social circle of people. Trump voters have and are indirectly causing extensive harm to millions of people, in and outside of their own country.
You've had pretty near a decade to figure out who Trump is and what he is capable of as a politician. Although I will welcome you back into the realm of the normies, I have very little sympathy if you're getting exactly what you've asked for.

Because we had, at the time, the world's strongest empire at our backs. Now we're facing that. I'll be Wolverining along side anyone, but let's not pretend it wouldn't be a struggle.

It would be one of the weirdest Wars in history. I cant pretend that I know how it would go.
Even the most cynical soldier would have to think..."We're fighting Canada? Seriously? Are you sure about this? Can they make a Molotov Cocktail out of a syrup bottle??"
Yes we can. But syrup bottles tend to be either plastic or the really good ones are considerably sturdy vessels of thick glass.
Its been tested.
Also, it could be like a Disney movie. Instead of the birds and deer helping make beds or whatnot we could weaponize Beavers, Bears and Moose. You dont wanna be on the wrong end of that!

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

I agree. When an American soldier has to cross the border and is expected to shoot and kill resisting Canadians, I think you'd see a pretty large contingent of Americans refuse, including high ranking officers. I'd like to think it's not TOTALLY based on racism like Senator Clay Davis suggested, but when I think about the same situation at the southern border, I don't think there'd be the same hesitation to invade Mexico, so...

I think it would turn into that scene from Braveheart...
Except..."Canadian!"
