My conversation with Rogers CSR (called *611):
"I'd like to change my data plan from the 4MB to the 6GB for $30 plan"
"What phone do you have?"
"First generation iPhone"
"You are aware sir that our data plans do not officially work on non-Rogers phones".
"H'okay. So what does that mean? My 4MB seems to be working just fine."
"It means that there is no guarantee that our data plans will work with your phone."
"Oh. Well sign me up anyway."
"Okay. Done. Is that all for today sir?"
"Yep. Thank you."

*ponderance* Nowhere in that conversation was there anything about a 3 year contract. I just logged into rogers.com and checked and there she be: "6GB data plan".

The plan is...

$15
250 Weekday Minutes
Unlimited Incoming Calls
6PM Unlimited Evenings and Weekends

I won't know 100% how it's going to work yet. I have to wait until my phone arrives later this week. Retentions did confirm, however, that I would be able to transfer one of my lines onto someone else and have the voice plan stay intact. I've also confirmed that the 6GB/$30 data plan can be added to the transferred line as well.

I'll probably list something in the Buy/Sell section later this week when I have everything worked out.
Nice plan. Would such a plan be able to be transferred to the Vancouver area?

As far as I know, the plan can be transferred anywhere in Canada.

I keep finding nice little surprise features with ver 2.0. You can now flip the ipod around when watching a video and it will play right side up.

How long does it take to get used to typing on the screen? I looked at a demo today and couldn't seem to type on it... every time I wanted to type a T, a Y came out instead... is there some kind of a calibration routine?

There's no calibration that I'm aware of, it does take a bit of getting used to. It also has an auto-complete type functionality so if you get a letter wrong it usually fixes it for you.

One thing I wish it did was turn the keyboard sideways in the email program like it does in the web-forms for the browser; the keyboard in landscape is a bit easier to type on.

The trick to typing on the iPhone is to just trust it. I can whip through now, making multiple mistakes, and it almost always knows what I'm trying to type and corrects it for me.

So just forget about hitting backspace to correct every missed key and just keep going, let the OS correct it for you. I find that now I just need to give things a quick proofread, and I may have to correct the odd mistake here and there, but it's pretty much always bang on.

I have a question. If I am rogers subscriber and I go to store to get one, do I pay for it there or will they put it on my bill?

I got mine (on Fido) at the Unipage Fido store at Pacific place. They had a 16GB black on Sunday. The Fido store at Central Landmark on 16th Ave had a white 16GB on Sunday.

The two guys at my office that picked up iPhones on the weekend had it put on their bill.

Anyone know any shops in town that are selling iPhone 3G cases? The Mac store, Future Shop, and Best Buy all have nothing.

Best selection and cheapest prices for cell phone accessories is ebay. A quick search brought up almost 4000 listings.

Most old iPhone cases probably won't work either, the dimensions are different, it's thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges.

Dang I didn't know there were still that many 16GB ones around.

Nope. I'm sure some work with both but I'm looking for a solid form-fitting case and 3G is thicker than the touch.

Just tried to get an iPhone, but no go. There were 4 8GB ones available, but apparently hardware upgrades are done by years, AND revenue. I am probably OK by years, but revenue I am not. To get an 8GB iPhone, I would have been paying 330 bucks. On top of that, I would have had to change my plan, which I found out is pretty damn sweet. My mom used to work for Rogers, and it is an old employee plan. The total bill per month is something like 38 bucks for 150 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends, and the plan also includes voice mail, call display, and unlimited text messages.

I am moving, and wanted to upgrade the plan, but there is no point right now. I don't need to be paying close to 90 bucks per month for an iPhone plan. Just isn't necessary.
