Anyone on a Fido retention voice plan able to add the 6GB/$30 data plan? I'm reading on other forums and still getting mixed answers. Some say the CSR will need the IMEI and some don't ask for it.
I'm still on hold with Fido.

Well my stolen copy of 2.0 worked on my touch. The apps are pretty cool. The NYTimes one is awesome. It downloads the entire paper and will come in handy on the bus in the morning. The entire paper is cached to your device after it updates.
I bought the Tuner App that lets you listen to internet radio. There must be thousands of stations. I listened to George Carlin Radio all night last night.

After using it for a whole day, I must say I think I love it. No, I mean I'm IN love with it, I want to have it's babies.
There's so much good design in the device, I find new features just by using it.
I was driving and had it hooked up to my stereo with a tape adapter (yeah yeah), answered it, and was surprised to hear the other person over the car stereo. Instant hands free!
Downloaded the Light Sabre app, that's pretty cool.
It switched to 3G right away in Calgary, but no matter where I went it never switched to "Fido", so not sure what that means. No 3G in Chestermere sucks
It is totally useful too.. I was doing some IT type stuff and I was able to search my gmail for an activation email for a service, find my password, log into the service via the web, make a change I needed to make, all in 5 minutes over 3G. If I hadn't have had that I would have had to drive home.
Totally useful.

So if I was to walk in to a Rogers store tomorrow, what are the chances of getting one? Are they impossible to find already? I have to change my cell plan, so I might just suck it up and buy one if possible.

That's what I am wondering as well. The rogers video by my place only got 6 on friday. They are hoping to get another shipment either monday or tuesday. They are expecting another 6. I might have to find another place to pick it up.
*sigh*

Can you go on a waiting list so that you at least don't miss out on the promotional data plan offer by Aug 31?

If you're currently a Rogers customer, you should be able to add it right now.

That's hit and miss. I've been told the numerous times I've tried I can only do it with a 3G phone. Others have been able to add it no matter what phone they've had. If you first don't succeed, keep trying I guess.

FYI I found a cool app called iRinger that lets you convert anything to be a ringtone, it converts it, renames it, and puts it into iTunes for you.

In their press release they said that they would also give the 6GB/$30 on 2G and grey market phones upon request. I just visited Rogers Video and the guy at the service desk said that they have had a flood of people with the original iPhones coming in getting the deal put on. He said he had no idea there were so many unlocked iPhones in the city.
I asked if I could have the deal put on my original iPhone and he said "No."
I asked why. He said "Because it is Sunday and Data Services is closed on Sundays". Guh. I'm guessing that is because prior to this week, data services was primarily for business use. The average Joe couldn't afford data.

Just a quick question regarding that. If you sign up for the $30/6GB plan, do you have to lock yourself into that for 3 years? I'm just wondering because in your case if you had an unlocked original iPhone, does it make sense to lock yourself into a 3 year data plan when you could have spent $250 and got the 3G version? I'm just curious as to if you can go month to month on that plan in both cases (existing phone or brand new 3G iPhone)?

I didn't today, as I mentioned earlier, Rogers said they couldn't change my plan on a Sunday. And, yes, it would require locking into a 3 year deal.
My reason for not upgrading right now is that in 6 months, Apple will be releasing a 32GB phone. My music collection is 24GB, so it won't fit on the 16GB phone, which is something I find frustrating with my 8GB - I keep rotating things every few weeks. So I want to wait until the 32GB phone is available instead of upgrading now and then buying yet another phone 6 months from now. Then I would have 3 iPhones - an 8GB, a 16GB and a 32GB. Oi.
My concern is that when that 32GB phone comes out it will probably be something like $399 with a 3 year plan or $799. But I'll cross that road when I come to it.

I just got off the phone with retentions, and they've agreed to transfer my retentions plan onto my new line... I'll have two lines (both with the same voice plan).
So, in essence... this means that I will be (potentially) looking for someone to take over one of my lines. This would, of course, include my 1G iPhone.
The plan is...
$20
250 Weekday Minutes
Unlimited Incoming Calls
6PM Unlimited Evenings and Weekends
I won't know 100% how it's going to work yet. I have to wait until my phone arrives later this week. Retentions did confirm, however, that I would be able to transfer one of my lines onto someone else and have the voice plan stay intact. I've also confirmed that the 6GB/$30 data plan can be added to the transferred line as well.
I'll probably list something in the Buy/Sell section later this week when I have everything worked out.
Edit: Changed plan price from $15 to $20. They wouldn't let me have the $5 monthly credit on both lines!
